Madison Square Garden sits right in the heart of New York City directly above Penn Station. If you're in New York just for the day and want to tick all the tourist boxes, Times Square is just a six-minute walk away, and on the way there you can drop into Grand Central Station. If you keep heading away from the venues you'll find yourself in the wide open spaces of Central Park in ten minutes.
Nick 'n Stef's
Voted one of the top 10 steakhouses in New York City, Nick 'n Stefs is definitely worth a visit. It offers great steaks and fresh seafood and, located right next to Madison Square Garden on West 33rd Street, it is an ideal place to eat before or after a concert.
Lugo café
In the mood for Italian? Lugo Café is located directly across the road in One Penn Plaza. Along with everything you would expect from a traditional Italian restaurant, their Lugo meatballs come highly recommended!
Keen's steakhouse
Situated on 72 West 36th Street, Keen's steakhouse is just under a ten-minute walk from Madison Square Garden. Their steaks will set you back over $50 but can be a great start (or finish) to the evening.
Stout NYC
One of New York City's largest Irish pubs, the three-story high Stout sits just a stone's throw from Madison Square Garden. Open until 4am on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, it's a great place to continue the party. With over 150 types of bottled beer, 25 drafts and more than 65 Irish whiskies, what's not to like?
Pennsylvania 6 NYC
A three-minute walk from the venue, Pennsylvania 6 sits on West 31st Street. It offers good cocktails, craft beers and a 1920's feel. It does have a reputation for getting slightly crowded, but isn't that the sign of a good bar anyway?
MSG is located directly above Penn Station, meaning you should catch the 1, 2, 3, A, C, E trains and jump off at 34th Street/Penn Station.
The capacity for concerts is typically 20,000, though this can vary depending on the layout of the show. For basketball, seating capacity is 19,763 but this drops to 17,200 for hockey games.
Be prepared to pay premium prices for drinks in Madison Square Garden. Beer starts at a whopping $10.50 and in a 2014 survey the venue had the most expensive drinks in the NHL!
You should check individual event tickets for any age restrictions.
No, sadly you'll have to keep a hold of your belongings.
Entry times at Madison Square Garden vary depending on the event being held. For those early birds who line the streets prior to a concert, doors open one hour in advance.
The venue provides WiFi to visitors via Optimum but sessions are limited to ten minutes. Better share those pictures quickly!
