STAPLES Center is in downtown Los Angeles so just a short walk from bars and restaurants.
Most people will head to LA Live, a large restaurant and shopping complex adjacent to the venue. It's where the Grammys and other red carpet events are hosted, so keep your eyes peeled for celebs.
Smashburger
This place serves up hand-crafted burgers made from 100% angus beef, plus better-than-your-average sides like fries tossed in rosemary, garlic and olive oil. Doors open until 10pm every night.
Rosa Mexicano
Started in New York City, this restaurant is the place to go for regionally authentic Mexican food including fresh guacamole, empanadas and quesadillas. It's open until at least 10pm on weeknights and until 11.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
Lucky Strike Lanes and Lounge
Turns out bowling can be kinda classy. Plush interiors, cozy dining areas, plus hand-crafted beers and cocktails make this place a tempting option. Tuck into some crispy tacos and Belgian fries before seeing just how lucky you are on the bowling lanes at this late-night venue.
Yard House
This place has hundreds of beers to pick from. Okay,so you'll probably end up with the same ale you always go for, but the sports bar is open until at least midnight so you'll have plenty of time to get more adventurous.
Grammy Museum
Visiting a four-storey museum might not be the most rock 'n' roll way to spend your trip, but we won't judge. Interactive exhibits, films and artifacts reveal the history of the music industry and all for a modest $12.95 entry fee.
The Standard Rooftop Bar
The more adventurous might want to skip the strip-mall setting of LA Live and experience the rest of downtown Los Angeles. This rooftop bar gives panoramic views of the city and mountains beyond, although it inevitably charges handsomely for the privilege.
Crane Bar
A more laidback alternative is this downtown dive bar. Think vintage arcade games, a low-key crowd and cool beer.
If doing lots of travelling around the city, you might want to buy a day pass for unlimited use of the Metro rail and buses.
Hop on the Metro bus line 30, 81, 439, 442 or 460; or the Silver line. DASH bus route F has several stops on Figueroa Street which is adjacent to the center.
There are tons of options including skyscraper hot dogs (find these at Beyond the Whistle Stop), barbecue chicken pizza and penne pasta (California Pizza Kitchen), plus snacks on the healthier side such as sushi and a Caesar salad (Outtakes). Drinks-wise, there's a cocktail bar and several places good for a beer or two, including Goose Island with its range of craft ales.
Yes, visitors can connect to the free service by picking "VerizonWiFi" from the list of networks.
There are various parking lots including a valet service in the East garage. Here's a map. (Pre-paid parking is available for the organized among us.)
Opening times vary for each event but, safe to say, it's good to arrive early. All visitors need to go through a metal-detector screening and a bag inspection.
No flash photography or selfie sticks are allowed, so you'll have to get creative with taking those pics. The same goes for large backpacks (over 14" by 14"). Unopened plastic water bottles can be brought in if one liter or smaller.
Many have visited, but none have returned to tell the tale. Will you be the first to write a review of STAPLES Center?
