What's the surrounding area like?

With its location in the heart of downtown Columbus, the area surrounding the Nationwide Arena has something for everyone. You won't have to walk far to find bars and restaurants.

How can I spend a day in Columbus before heading to the game?

If you're planning to take in some of the attractions in Columbus before the game, here are some suggestions.

German Village

The incredible neighborhood of German Village is one of the most well-known historic restorations in the whole country. You can immerse yourself completely in its 19th century charm and even grab a bite to eat at the German restaurant, Sausage Haus. Each year, there's a small-scale Oktoberfest held here too.

Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

For a reasonable admission fee you can enjoy scores of species here including grizzly bears, lions, tigers and Asian elephants. Or, if you feel like an adventure, why not take a ride on the Pirate Island attraction (open between May 16 and Nov 1)?

Franklin Park Conservatory

For those who enjoy nature, the indoor and outdoor gardens here will be just your thing. There are exhibitions taking place year round and visitors can enjoy artwork, crafts and a small café and gift shop.

Where are the best places to eat and drink near Nationwide Arena?

Elevator Brewery and Draught Haus

For a top-notch range of beers and a menu that includes sandwiches, salads and a variety of entrées, this is the place. You can get sandwiches from $10 upwards and entrées from about $20 upwards. There are typically more than 10 beers to choose from.

Martini Modern Italian

In a slightly more formal setting than the Elevator Brewery, this is an impressive Italian restaurant with a great ambience situated close to the Arena. Martini Modern Italian is ideal for those who want to sit down for a more formal meal before the game.

Rodizio Grill

Meat. Meat. Meat. That's the order of the day at the Rodizio Grill chain of restaurants. This Brazilian inspired meaty menu won't be popular with the vegetarians, for sure, but for carnivores with big appetites, this is the place to head to before the game.

Is there anything else visitors to Columbus should know?

Columbus was named the most intelligent city in the USA in a list released by the Intelligent Community Forum in 2013. So don't feel dumb if the locals outsmart you in conversation. Apparently, this is a city of geniuses.
