DTE Energy Music Theatre is set in a scenic location. There are a few decent fast food joints relatively close, and you'll find cute towns nearby to explore. Downtown Detroit is a 40-minute drive away.
Cook's Farm Dairy
10 minutes down the road from the DTE Energy Music Theatre is Cook's Farm Dairy, a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. It's no surprise: their chocolate milk and freshly churned ice cream are unrivalled in the area.
Great Lakes Crossing Outlets
When you're looking to get a little shopping done, the Great Lakes Crossing Outlets can't be beat in terms of both style and price. Slightly more than a 10-minute drive away from the DTE Energy Music Theatre, you can browse countless name brands and dine at a number of excellent eateries before heading to your show.
Just 20 minutes away from the DTE Energy Music Theatre, the Orion Marine is sure to provide a fun day of summer distraction. Rent a pontoon or hop onto a historic boat tour to learn more about the "history, folklore, and lies of Lake Orion."
SEA LIFE Michigan Aquarium
Located in Auburn Hills just a 10- to 15-minute drive away from the venue, the SEA LIFE Michigan Aquarium is a great way to pass the afternoon. Touch a crab, hold a starfish, or just watch the turtles paddling the day away before heading out for your concert in the evening.
You have to sample the mac and cheese here, which is a favorite of Michigan native, Kid Rock. You'll find plenty of beer choices here as well, including Kid Rock's own Badass Beer, and a wide range of salads, burgers, and sandwiches. Fill up before making the 8-minute drive to the DTE Energy Music Theatre.
Also in Clarkston, the Union Woodshop is another local favorite. The barbeque here comes from the backlot, which produces meats you'll want to sample every way possible - on a plate, between two slices of bread, or sopping into a pile of potatoes.
If you head back to the Great Lakes Crossing Outlet Area, you'll find plenty of chain restaurants for a quick and delicious meal. Logan's Roadhouse is a quick drive from the outlet malls, featuring everything from fried pickles to loaded potato soup. You'll also get free bottomless buckets of peanuts - and you're allowed to throw the shells on the floor! This is a solid choice before a long night out.
Michigan is downright frigid during the winter months and baking in the summer, so make sure to dress accordingly. Layers are your friend.
This is a relatively rural area, so your best bet is driving. The venue is easily accessible via Exit 89 (Sashabaw Road) on the I-75.
There is ample parking next to the venue.
If it's American food that makes your heart sing, get ready for the night of your life. Burgers, fries, pizza, tacos, and caramel popcorn are examples of the sort of thing you'll find on the menus here. Beer and wine are also available at the concessions stands, but you may want to head to the beer garden instead, to indulge in the sun. If burgers and pizza aren't your thing, you can also pack your own picnic, as long as you stick to food (no outside drinks are allowed). Picnic baskets and coolers are both acceptable containers.
In addition to your own picnic, you can bring a beach chair, a blanket, and even a sleeping bag - good for those cold Michigan nights.

Very enjoyable, laid back venue. Had no problems whatsoever.
Liked: Everything was very easy; parking, entering venue, bathroom accessibility, getting out of the parking lot after concert.

You could make great $$ having on ground lodging!
Liked: Great concert; great staff at counters for food and drink as the lines moved quickly! VERY friendly and helpful counter staff.
Disliked: Easier access out, at least designated taxi, limo pickup area with signs for people to follow to get to them! A yellow brick road to the "yellow taxi".

We travelled from Toronto to attend the first two Kid Rock shows of the Best Night Ever tour, and we had a blast. We will definitely be coming back to the DTE for another concert!
Liked: The venue itself is beautiful! I loved the feeling of being tucked away in the woods, and just walking around and taking in the different sights. There is a lot to do to pass the time before the show starts.
Disliked: It takes forever for everyone to leave the pavilion/grass area and would not be safe if there had been an emergency. I saw some people with canes that were getting shoved by the herds of people.

You need to sell your water for a dollar. I wasn't drinking alcohol - only the expensive water and lemonade. I almost had a heat stroke at the Mayhem festival. Sell the water cheaper so someone doesn't die on the property. Prices are wrong!
Liked: The venue is awesome.
Disliked: Price of water sucks.

Enjoyed a great concert - "Maze featuring Frankie Beverly". Outstanding event; DTE sound system was great; atmosphere was fantastic.

We saw Dave Matthews play and it was awesome. Tons of room in the seats to dance, without elbowing your neighbors. Real toilets instead of porta-pottys. Tons of beverage and food choices. Loved every minute of it!

Liked: Music, music, music.
Disliked: Rain, rain, cold rain.
