Charlotte Motor Speedway is located in Concord, famed for its NASCAR driver headquarters. Most restaurants and bars are a ten-minute drive away in the downtown part of the city.

What are the 'must do' things in Concord?

Track Tours

Held on non-race days, these tours come in various speeds and sizes. The Feel the Thrill Speedway Tour ($12) takes you through the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series garage, two infield race tracks to Winner's Circle for a picture. All of this within the comfort of a van.

Richard Petty Driving Experience

Care to accelerate to speeds reaching a max of 160 mph? Visitors can buckle up inside a NASCAR vehicle before racing around the 1.5 mile quad-oval.

SEA LIFE Charlotte-Concord Aquarium

For a more relaxed pace, explore an underwater world. Sharks glide through the blue mist, while starfish, seahorses and a spectrum of other fishy friends float about just a glass wall away. The $18 entry includes educational talks held every hour.

Where are the best places to eat near Charlotte Motor Speedway?

Andele Mexican Restaurant

Beware the hot salsa! This authentic Mexican eatery satisfies appetites with platefuls of fajitas, fresh salads and heaps of platos especiales. Drop by until 10pm from Fridays to Sundays.

The Smoke Pit

This barbecue joint knows its meat. Quality cuts of angus beef, pulled pork and chicken wings attract the crowds to the casual eatery, based nearby several Charlotte Motor Speedway hotels.

Gianni's Trattoria
Head downtown to this charming Italian where fresh ingredients pack a punch of flavor across pastas, vegetarian and meat dishes. How about the herb chicken over rosemary potatoes with roasted pepper sauce? Or could it be the Sicilian Red Snapper you want to reel in?

Ruby Tuesday

Good for late-night snacks, this chain is a decent option for fast food and a post-game chat. The drinks menu probably gets most attention with its range of beers, cocktails and fruity sangria.

What other events happen in the area?

The Carolina Renaissance Festivaltakes place just north of Charlotte on weekends in October and November each year. History-enthusiasts can revel in the costumed entertainers, musical acts and festival food; all while shunning any anachronistic mobile phone-users.

Liked: Great experience in the Ride-Along and my husband in driving the race car.

Liked: Nice seating; great large screen to watch during race. Best of both worlds - you can see the race on the screen like being at home yet you have the excitement of the race.
Disliked: We were sold pit passes and were not allowed to go into the garage area. They need to explain this after charging you $150 for very little access.

This was my third NASCAR race and by far the nicest track and the best pre race show too. Darius Rucker had the NASCAR fans up on their feet singing and dancing - so much fun. Everything was well put together. The flag display was gorgeous. I bet there were over 300 volunteers helping with the flag. The Marine Corp Band, the parachuters, and the two 21 gun salutes - all awesome! The retired military that were honored - very nice. It truly was a tear jerker. My nephew was in the Marine Corp for 4 years and got out in August 2010. He spent 2 tours in Afghanistan. Two of his fellow Marines lost their lives right next to him and he is, we all are, forever grateful for their sacrifice. OOHRAH to Daniel and his fellow Marines. Daniel wanted to come to CMS with us but could not make it. Maybe next year he can.

Liked: The grounds are beautiful. People working were nice and helpful.
Disliked: The asphalt is hot, hot, hot where all the trailers are and all the fun activites are located. Concrete wouldn't be as hot.

We had a wonderful time. My daughter aged 9 and son aged 5's first race - the look on their faces were priceless. They loved every moment and the speedway did an awesome job making this event kid approved! Lots for them to do - games, rides, animals - we were even up close to see an interview with Jeff Gordon and Carl Edwards. We had front row seats by the start/finish line and could feel the cars when they went by. Thanks for such a memory in my children's lives - can't wait to do this again.

This was our first time coming to Charlotte and we are looking forward to coming back. The staff was very nice and helpful. We had great seats, I don't think that any seat would be bad. Can't wait to return!!!

I love Lowe's Motor Speedway, this was my second trip and this time I was able to bring my son for his first NASCAR experience. We stayed at the Super 8 which was economical and close to the track. Great Memorial Day weekend!!

Liked: Only positive!!!
