This hotel is in the perfect location - very close to all of the action, but quiet enough to feel like you've gotten away. The check in process was quick and easy and when speaking to the staff, we casually mentioned that we were in NYC for one night to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. Later that evening, we returned to our room to find a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries, compliments of Xander and the Royal! What a lovely, considerate, and unexpected surprise. Next time we stay in NY, we will most definitely be staying at the Royal!

Liked: Clean, modern hotel with great customer service!

It was a comfortable two...

Liked: There was no food/ restaurant in the hotel and the reception desk was tucked away in the wall so you couldn’t see it when you walked in . The room had no service for tea or coffee or even glasses to drink the water. The phone was tucked away in the corner porthole by the bed so not accessible very easily. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable but there a few things lacking and for the price that I paid I expected more. There are so many little things they could do to fix those issues to make the place more inviting and have more services like food , move the reception desk to the front area etc.
Disliked: The lack of food and coffee etc was huge especially since we arrived later in the evening. A room service meal or even snacks would have been appreciated.

Liked: I love the staff and how aloof they are. They were always there to greet me and one time he was said oh, you made it back. Lol. I love the ambiance of the lobby and how clean the rooms were. It had wonderful decor. It was very unique. The gym was great.
Disliked: I didn't like the lack of amenities. But that was kind of on me for not looking ahead. There was no coffee/tea, no drinking glasses, and no ice or ice bucket to be found.I was also disappointed that the bar and restaurant are closed during our visit.

Gone steadily downhill

Liked: Location, and staff were good.
Disliked: Mostly everything else. I have stayed here over the years and watched the hotel deteriorate. They closed the bar and restaurant during covid, and it never reopened. Nobody knows why. As a result the lobby, which was trendy, and busy, resembles a morgue. The staff are really depressed about this, they say the hotel is bought and sold, and no-one cares. I usually book a loft suite. This has deteriorated steadily over the years. The carpets are scuffed, and ragged, the sofa is disgusting, and stained, etc.Such a shame. I will not be staying there again.
