A Laid-Back Stay Near Portsmouth’s Music Scene

Modern comfort meets countryside charm at The Roundabout Hotel, located just a 10-minute drive from Portsmouth town centre and the scenic South Downs National Park. With cozy rooms, free Wi-Fi, and an on-site restaurant serving English and French cuisine, this hotel offers a relaxed, unfussy base for music lovers exploring the coastal concert circuit.

Whether you're catching a show in Portsmouth or taking in the sea breeze at nearby Lee-on-Solent, The Roundabout keeps you close to the action while offering a quiet place to recharge afterward.

Why Concert-goers love it

Conveniently located for gigs in Portsmouth, The Roundabout Hotel is a smart choice for those who want to avoid city-centre crowds but still be within easy reach. It's a short drive or taxi ride from major venues, and with free on-site parking, it’s especially handy for road-tripping fans. Guests appreciate the quiet surroundings, perfect for unwinding after a loud night out. While check-in starts at 15:00, the relaxed vibe and helpful staff make arrival and departure smooth—even for those on a post-concert schedule.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a casual, budget-friendly base near Portsmouth
  • Solo travelers chasing bucket-list gigs with a peaceful night’s sleep after
  • Couples turning a concert into a weekend getaway
  • Fans who prefer a quiet spot to recharge after the show
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who want value without compromising comfort

Food and Drink Options

The on-site 70-seat restaurant serves up English and French cuisine with both à la carte and buffet options. While there's no 24/7 room service, late dining is possible depending on kitchen hours, and you can always grab a tea or coffee in your room. After a late night, you’ll appreciate the hearty breakfast options available—ideal for a slow start the next morning.

Nightlife Options

The hotel itself is more on the quiet side, perfect for those looking to escape the noise after a show. But if you're still buzzing from the music, Portsmouth’s pubs, bars, and live music spots are just a short cab ride away. Lee-on-Solent also offers some coastal nightlife for those wanting a seaside pint.

What People Say

Guests consistently mention the friendly staff, clean rooms, and free Wi-Fi as highlights. Many reviewers loved the easy access to Portsmouth and described the hotel as “great value for money.” The on-site restaurant also earns praise for its quality and variety.

Areas for Improvement

Some visitors noted that the decor is a bit dated, and you may want to bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper, just in case. Late-night food options are a bit limited, especially after restaurant hours—but there are nearby takeaways if you're peckish post-show.

The Bottom Line

If you're catching a gig in Portsmouth and want a quiet, affordable place to crash with easy access to both city and coast, The Roundabout Hotel hits all the right notes.

Overall a pleasant stay with...

Liked: Room was sufficiently spacious for our needs. Good 'in bath' shower. Breakfast was good value and plentiful. All of the staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. During our nearly 48 hour visit, the (often) sole member of customer facing staff was constantly rushed off her feet.
Disliked: Hotel has a feeling of being a little tired. Stair rails are sticky to the touch and the bathroom in our room was grubby below sink area and round bath. Not enough towels although that was rectified on request. We felt that whilst satisfactory and good food the evening dinner menu was limited. We chose the hottest days of the year to stay and having windows open meant you allowed in extremely loud traffic noise.

Pleasant

Liked: The staff are lovely, always welcoming, nice pub, great breakfast.
Disliked: The bed was awful, the spung mattress was well past it's best. The lights in the bathroom failed after 3 mins, overheated transformer, came back on after being switched off for a while, then failed totally on the second day. After my shower, I tried the hair dryer, which went bang in my hands, glowed inside and started smoking. Our room overlooked the beer garden and it was a bit noisy. The road noise was quite bad too. The secondary double glazing had been removed and the old wooden sash window stopped no noise. We were offered a refund if we wanted to find alternative accomodation, but, at 7pm on a Saturday night, the hottest weekend of the year, with a dog, we couldn't find anything nearby. So we had to stay. This is such a shame as we stayed here last week (different room) and we were very happy.

Served its purpose for an...

Liked: Convenient for onward travel after a late ferry arrival, just 10 minutes from the port, friendly staff, included breakfast was OK, decent value, car park OK for putting a motorcycle out of sight, bed linen, towels etc fresh and clean.
Disliked: Location is not good if you’re not used to traffic noise - there’s no let up all night long, both from the adjacent island and the nearby dual carriageway - the hotel itself is a little tired but OK for an overnight.
