Disappointing - 2 out of 5

Angela, Littlestown, visiting Madison Square Garden Thu, 3 August 2017

The place is clean, safe, attractive. The staff is well trained. However, when you do not get the room you booked and have to squeeze 7 people into a room for 4, it greatly reduces your ability to enjoy your stay. We literally were stepping on each other for three days. We could not unpack our things because there was no room. I booked 6 months in advance because it was important for us to have the room we asked for. This was my fourth time staying at this hotel. I will not be returning again.

Liked: The staff was very nice and did their best to help us.
Disliked: I booked a suite 6 months ago. Checked in 3 hours early but did not get my room I was promised. They ended up putting me and my 6 guests in a room meant for 4 people.

Liked: Good location.
Disliked: Room was very small. We had a 6 person suite. Was very tight. Bathroom small.

Great stay would stay there...

Liked: Great location. Helpful staff. Comfortable room.
Disliked: The shower was old; the tile was chipped w/ worn grout. I would have expected better upkeep given the rest of the facilities. However, those issues were aesthetic only. The shower itself did it's job perfectly

Great location and spacious rooms

Liked: Great location - right across Madison Square Graden, Penn Station and Macy's. The hop on and off bus is located 100 meters from the hotel and makes it very convenient. Rooms were well sized - we were upgraded to a suite with kitchen and was very comfortable. Way more spacious than regular hotels in New York. Most of the staff was friendly and helpful despite being understaffed.
Disliked: The NYPD precinct is very close to the hotel and as a result it can get pretty noisy with all the sirens (we were on the third floor and it was LOUD). The hotel provides ear plugs but doesn't do much if you are a light sleeper. Disappointed with one of the front desk staff. We had called the night before to ask for a late checkout (as we had a late night flight the next day) only to be abruptly cut off and told that the hotel was overbooked and we had to check out at 11AM (this was even after we had offered to pay for a late check out/half day rate). We decided to do a quick check on and Expedia and obviously that was not the case. We decided to not bother arguing with him (since he was so abrupt) and called the front desk the next morning. Thankfully they were understanding and offered us a late check out for 75 USD.

inexpensive, run down room with...

Liked: the price appeared to be relatively good relative to options
Disliked: the rooms were pretty run down. the bed was comfortable, but the desk, drawers were scratched and very cheap... broken/old ikea-class furniture. the grey paint of the room walls were dirty/dingy....poor low lighting. though it was less expensive then other hotels, our room did not match up to the pictures on the website...not even close. we were amazed that it was rated a 4-star hotel. undisclosed 'facilities fees' (10%) and NYC taxes continued the insult.

very central location in Manhattan

Liked: the location was very central and the staff in the hotel very nice and helpful - in particular thanks for upgrading room and helping to get a taxi with decent price.
Disliked: it's very noisy - there is fire brigade next to the hotel so we had to sleep with ear-blogs all the time - also the rooms are quite outdated.
