Classic Comfort by the Sea, Just Minutes from the Music

Located in a grand Edwardian building overlooking Southsea Common, the Queens Hotel offers a charming coastal retreat just a short walk from Portsmouth’s beach and local concert venues. With views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight, this stylish stay blends historic elegance with modern convenience – perfect for music fans who want to mix seaside calm with live gig energy.

Why Concert-goers love it

The Queens Hotel is ideally placed for gig nights in Portsmouth, being within walking distance of popular spots like Southsea Common and Clarence Pier. After the show, you can enjoy a peaceful night thanks to the hotel’s quiet seafront location, away from the high-traffic city buzz. With a 3:00 PM check-in and an 11:00 AM check-out, there’s just enough flexibility to suit your show schedule. Public transport and the Isle of Wight ferry terminal are also close, making late-night travel more manageable.

Who this Hotel is great for

Groups of friends will love the spacious rooms and lively bar scene
Solo travelers chasing a bucket-list show can enjoy a safe and scenic base
Couples can turn a gig into a romantic weekend by the sea
Fans needing quiet after a loud night will appreciate the peaceful garden and sea views
Budget-conscious music lovers will find great value in the location and amenities

Food and Drink Options

Fuel up before or recover after the show at the elegant 1865 Restaurant, serving a hearty buffet breakfast with garden views. The hotel bar offers an all-day grill menu and sea views – perfect for a relaxed bite before heading out. While 24/7 room service isn’t available, the on-site dining hours are generous, and you’re within walking distance to Southsea’s diverse eateries for late-night cravings.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself is more about classic charm than club nights, its seafront bar is a cozy spot to wind down with a cocktail. Want more action? You’re a short stroll from Southsea's buzzing pubs and music-friendly venues. Whether you're into seaside lounges or lively bars, there’s something nearby for every afterparty vibe.

What People Say

Guests consistently praise the friendly staff, beautiful sea views, and the hotel’s prime location near local attractions and venues. The blend of historic charm and modern touches makes it a memorable stay, especially for those wanting to explore Portsmouth before or after the show.

Areas for Improvement

Some reviewers mention that the hotel's Edwardian style means not all rooms are fully modernized – so expect charm over cutting-edge design. A few guests reported limited parking, so arriving early or using nearby lots is a good idea.

The Bottom Line

The Queens Hotel is a stylish, seaside base that gives concert-goers the best of both worlds – easy access to Portsmouth’s top gigs and a peaceful place to recharge afterward.

Just lovely overall - staff...

Liked: Staff are friendly, and extremely helpful in explaining what there is to do around the area. The location is great - walking distance of big green parks, the beach, shops and restaurants. The interior of the hotel is beautiful.
Disliked: Might have been due to our last minute booking, the bathroom in our room didn’t match the quality of the rest of the room.

Service comparable to 5* -...

Liked: Easy to find, good parking on site. Very happy that we could bring our dog. Adam on reception was one of the most helpful, polite and professional hotel staff we have met, and we travel a lot. Was a one night late check in, leave early stay, so only opted for a standard room. It was clean, had everything you need and the bed is a good size and comfortable. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. At breakfast it was also the first time I’ve ever been offered to add something extra to my full English as I’m gluten free and miss out on sausage and hash browns. So 5* for that. It was much appreciated. All in all can’t really fault it. The larger rooms with balconies look worth a go.
Disliked: The bar was unappealing as it was so bright. Room decor is a bit bland but as only a standard room, not sure if that’s reflected

Very good

Liked: Lovely older hotel with great staff. Looking after luggage for a few hours post check out was very helpful.
Disliked: Struggled a little bit with the heat as there is no aircon but a fan was provided.

Pleasant and relaxing

Liked: Great location. and impressive refurb (some years back now). Hangers that detatch from the hanging rail. Free hotel parking. No marquee to block views. And, of course the sea view.
Disliked: bedside tables that were too 'mini' for comfort On my side, the space was entirely occupied by the obsolete dial up phone. Poor lighting - the mirror light in the bathroom did not work (may ned a new bulb). But both the bedroom and bathroom were poorly lit. Only one table light was provided and the lighting layout meant the side of the room away from the window was in semi-darkness even with all the lights on!
