Motel 6-Colchester VT - Burlington

Good

Disliked: Seems I was the only paying customer staying at that place. Lots of rooms seem reserved to people on welfare or lodged by the City or State. Weird atmosphere.

Liked: Room Rate, Staff, Location
Disliked: No walk-in shower. No bathroom exhaust fan. Loitering by what appeared to be tenants around building at all times of day/night. Dogs barking in the middle of the night.

Good value, we would stay...

Liked: Suited our needs and great price. Staff was great. No microwave nor coffee maker in rooms would be my major criticism but I knew that going in, so we were prepared

Amazing front office staff.

Liked: The front office staff were amazing. Very informative and polite. They went above and beyond to make us feel welcome.

Liked: The parking was easy and it was near public transit
Disliked: It was very expensive for the services provided, which was close to nil.

This was hands down the...

Liked: Not one single thing.
Disliked: So to start. My family and I spent $923.96 for two rooms - for two nights. We arrived to find cars on blocks, with flat tires, on vehicles that obviously haven’t moved in many months. As we walked in the front door, we saw a sign that said “no smoking within 50’ of the the entrance” - with smoke snuffers about 8’ away from the entrance. This isn’t an issue for us, but the pot smoking at the entrance is - we had an 11 year old along. We checked in and our rooms were 306 and 308. As we waited for the elevator, we heard what sounded like a dog fight on the elevator on whichever floor it was on. We got to our floor, and was greeted by Halloween decorations on the outside of the room doors, which made it obvious that people were living here. The rooms were ok - we had nothing more than a clean room, towels, and soap. No shampoo, conditioner, or lotion. My wife, adult daughter, and our 11 year old grandson decided to go to the McDonalds next door…they were greeted with a prostitute going door to door, and drug use in the parking lot. This was topped off with the police and an ambulance responding to an overdose in the motel’s back lot. So after all of this, we went back to our rooms, then to the front desk. We booked the next night in another motel, and asked for a refund for our second night. They told us they can’t help it. The state has more or less dictated that they take in homeless people, and they have no say in the matter. My family and I were visitors to the state for the fall season. Why were we not told that this motel is a homeless shelter? Why would we be charged this amount, to feel like we should lock ourselves in our rooms to avoid interacting with aggressive dogs, and who-knows-what as far as mental issues, or drug use? Motel 6 in Colchester needs to be removed from any motel booking sites, and I am really disappointed that we ended up paying $520 for two rooms for one night, in that environment. At this point I will never stay at another Motel 6.

Very expensive for what was...

Liked: The matresses were dirty(stains) but had clean matress covers and sheets. The shower was decent.
Disliked: The cleaning people didn't empty the baskets or provide us woith clean towels. The walls were paper thin and the allowed dogs(next room) was barking until about 1:00 a.m. Children were playing in the halls at midnight. I finally got about 3 hours of sleep Friday night. There was no refridgerator or microwave except on the 1st floor(we were on the 3rd floor and my wife is handicapped--clerk said all other rooms were not available).The elevator broke down on Friday morning--I had to carry all our bags up and down 3 flights each day as well as try to help my wife get up & down(I'll be 80 y.o. in November).

The whole place looks like...

Liked: Beds were comfortable
Disliked: The whole place appears to be a shelter of some sort. Lots of people hanging in the lobby, also in front of the property. Smoking and talking all day. Dogs barking, day and night.

Passable

Liked: Good location. Central to the highway and shopping. walking distance from downtown Colchester good restaurants.
Disliked: City using the hotel to offset the homeless shelter so there were a lot of schety people around the motel.
