The Spotlight on Metro Plaza Hotel

Affordable Comfort Steps from LA's Music Scene

Modern convenience meets downtown charm at the Metro Plaza Hotel, located right next to Chinatown and just a short walk from Union Station. This no-fuss, budget-friendly hotel keeps things simple with clean, warmly decorated rooms, free Wi-Fi, and a laid-back vibe. Whether you're catching a show at a nearby venue or exploring the city, its central location makes it easy to go from concert to cozy bed in no time.

Why Concert-goers love it

If you're heading to a concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall or any downtown LA venue, you'll love how convenient this spot is. Just a 5-minute walk from Union Station, it's ideal for those relying on public transit or rideshares after a late-night show. The hotel is set on a quieter stretch near Chinatown, so you can count on some peace after the encore. Plus, the 12:00 PM checkout gives you a little extra time to sleep in post-gig.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends who want an affordable downtown crash pad
  • Solo travelers ticking artists off their bucket list
  • Couples making a music-filled weekend of it
  • Fans who need a quiet night's sleep after dancing all night
  • Budget-conscious music lovers looking for great value in LA

Food and Drink Options

While Metro Plaza Hotel doesn't offer on-site dining, you're in luck—Chinatown’s eateries are just around the corner, making it easy to grab late-night bites or a hearty post-concert breakfast. There’s also a tour desk that can guide you to local hidden food gems. Room service isn't available, but plenty of takeout options are within walking distance.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself is quiet, it’s within easy reach of downtown LA’s lively bar scene. From rooftop lounges to intimate cocktail bars and live music spots, there’s no shortage of options for a nightcap before you head back. Union Station nearby also makes it easy to get back safely.

What People Say

Guests love the super-convenient location, especially for those relying on public transit or attending events near downtown. Friendly staff and clean rooms get regular shout-outs, and many reviewers mention the hotel’s great value for the price—especially in such a central area.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that the hotel is a bit dated in style, and amenities are basic—no frills here. Soundproofing isn't perfect, but the neighborhood is relatively quiet after dark. If you're after luxury, this may not be your spot—but if you're after location and price, it's a win.

The Bottom Line

Metro Plaza Hotel is a wallet-friendly, no-fuss base for concert-goers who want to stay close to the action without sacrificing sleep or convenience.

Friendly staff and secure parking

Liked: The staff at the Metro Plaza was very helpful and friendly. I loved the secure parking space which is locked during the night and the staff can quickly open and close the gate of the parking garage at anytime of the day. The room is basic but they are doing a great job renovating the interior.
Disliked: I can't think of any.

Close to Union Station and...

Liked: The hotel has a perfect position. It is close to El Pueblo, the historic Spanish quarter - exactly a street with old houses and restaurants. Just behind a corner Chinatown begins with bistros and grocery shops. Metro stop Union Station is 200m away.
Disliked: The shower is just like rain. Not too strong a stream. I had to ask for a chair for my room. There was none. But I got it

Courteous staff, very convenient location,...

Liked: Very convenient location adjacent to Los Angeles Union Station, Metro subway, light rail and commuter rail lines. Did not need a car. Hotel was comfortable, quiet and clean.

Poor

Liked: Parking garage part of hotel
Disliked: Dirty. Getting off the elevator on our floor was one of the more disgusting dirty carpets ive seen. Things patched together. Door to room was really difficult to open. Everytime anybody went in or out of their room it sounded like they were coming through our door. Bed mattresses are too hard/firm.

We were a bit disappointed...

Liked: We could tell that they were trying to present a lovely renovation of sorts. We appreciated the proximity to the train station as we came in on the train. They greeted us as we arrived and each time we returned. We appreciated the room having a refrigerator. The bathroom was clean. The towels were fresh each day. The size of the room and the bathroom were quite adequate.
Disliked: The beds were in need of attention ~ the mattresses were quite worn as were the linens. The bathroom door was heavy and hard to keep open. There was a man sitting outside on the sidewalk/steps each day and night that made us a bit uncomfortable. There was no coffee pot or glasses etc. There were no chairs to sit upon at the desk or otherwise. There were no night stands. The shower had no shelves for toiletries.
