The Spotlight on Holiday Inn Portsmouth

Seafront Comfort Just Minutes from Portsmouth's Music Scene

Modern and welcoming, the Holiday Inn Portsmouth is a coastal hotel perfectly positioned between the city’s vibrant music events and peaceful harbor views. Located just a short walk from Gunwharf Quays and the Historic Dockyard, it’s a convenient base for concert-goers who want a mix of entertainment and relaxation. With a full-service health club, on-site dining, and stylish rooms, you’ll have everything you need for a memorable music-filled getaway.

Why Concert-goers love it

This hotel is in a prime location for gig nights in Portsmouth. You’re less than a 15-minute walk from several key venues and just 10 minutes from Gunwharf Quays where you’ll find a buzz of bars and restaurants before or after the show. After a late night, relax in the steam room or hot tub at the You Fit Health Club. With free WiFi throughout and air-conditioned rooms, you can stream your favorite setlists or cool down after dancing. While check-in is from 15:00 and check-out at 11:00, the friendly staff often accommodate early arrivals or late departures when possible.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a social base close to nightlife
  • Solo travelers catching that once-in-a-lifetime gig
  • Couples planning a romantic concert weekend
  • Fans needing post-show recovery in a quieter seafront setting
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who want comfort without splurging

Food and Drink Options

On-site, you'll find a restaurant and bar perfect for a pre-show bite or post-concert drink. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the hotel offers convenient evening dining hours, and you’re a short stroll from Gunwharf Quays’ wide variety of eateries. Breakfast is available the morning after your gig, ideal for those slow wakeups.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself leans more toward the relaxed side, you can easily walk to lively bars and clubs in the Gunwharf Quays area. For those looking to wind down, the hotel bar offers a cozy atmosphere and classic drinks without the noise of a packed club.

What People Say

Guests consistently praise the friendly staff, clean modern rooms, and the excellent location for exploring Portsmouth’s attractions and venues. Many mention the ease of walking to events and enjoying the seafront views as a big plus. The health club amenities are also a hit, especially the pool and sauna for post-show relaxation.

Areas for Improvement

Parking is available but comes with a fee, so factor that into your budget. Some guests note the rooms facing the road can be a bit noisy, so if you're a light sleeper, request a quieter room at check-in. Also, while the hotel restaurant is convenient, the menu is more classic than adventurous.

The Bottom Line

If you're heading to Portsmouth for a concert and want a stylish, well-located hotel with seafront views and downtime-friendly amenities, the Holiday Inn Portsmouth is a solid pick.

Most staff were great but...

Liked: It was close to Victorious Festival
Disliked: It was way too expensive, everything felt dilapidated. Cramped bathroom, noisy every morning. Water feature out the front is an eyesore. The lifts were slow and cramped. Parking is in no way adequate. No fridge or water. Spa is badly in need of refurbishment.

Good

Liked: Air conditioning was on when we arrived, we were able to turn it off when it got too cold.Hotel was close to the maritime museum which is why we came to Portsmouth. Toiletries in bathroom were luxurious.
Disliked: The restaurant food and service was very disappointing. We had to order our drink, starter, main course and dessert altogether when the waiter came to take the order. As we didn’t know if we’d have room for a dessert we didn’t order one. We had to pay for all the above before it was cooked and we ate it. The starters were cleared away and the mains were bought straight out. They had obviously been cooked for a while and were sat in the kitchen waiting for us to finish our starters. We had Gluten free pasta which was cooked in a tomato sauce that looked and tasted as if it had come from a jar from Asda, we ordered extra toppings one had pulled pork and the other smoked bacon. If we hadn’t ordered them it would have been just pasta and sauce with two small shavings of Parmesan. We didn’t sleep well as the double mattress was dipped in the middle and we kept rolling together.

Overpriced and dirty

Liked: The bed was comfy and check in we were given free ice cream
Disliked: The air con was broken in all of the rooms which was one of the search criteria for me booking there, we were given a table top fan which really is not an acceptable alternative. The tea making area in the room was filthy. The leisure centre facilities were a bit grotty, noticeable debris and build up between the slats in the sauna...gross. something else that was not functional was the hot tub....Breakfast was standard and a good selection but given we paid £250 per night for a below average room I was really disgusted that I then had to pay further £12 per night for the breakfast....I honestly might complain directly to the company as I feel like there's multiple issues with what I was promised Vs what was delivered.
