Liked: Overall nice hotel. Still needs a few upgrades but it looks like they're working on it. The kitchen was outdated but clean and usable. Seems like an apartment building turned hotel.
Disliked: No jacuzzi

Liked: Night staff courteous - nice pool - nice courtyard - allows pets
Disliked: I booked this online based off the pictures provided. What room I was given was NOT what was pictured. I was told after mentioning this that those rooms weren't available at this time and there were some that had been remodeled. I am upset I paid for something that was not provided and was told unavailable but seeing as it wasn't just me staying, we stayed . Upon check out I was told I would be charged for parking - not told this at check in when handed the pass. Also upon checking out I was told I would be waived the pet fee for my issue but when checking in with a dog in my arms I was never told about a pet fee so I'd hope I would not b charged especially after it never mentioned a fee while booking the room. The staff was amazing, not really helpful when I asked about this situation but overall nice, courtyard was amazing and location is great but the price I paid - the room as not worth anywhere near that price. Also be aware there is a 200 deposit, you get it back so it's no biggie but worth knowing before you get there just in case you need extra funds for any reason. If you book and the rooms look modern I would suggest calling ahead to ensure you are getting that room and not the back rooms by pool which are all old and still smell like an old stale motel room from 1981.

I wish the rooms were...
Liked: The location was great and the lobby was very decorative.
Disliked: They needed more upgrades, the rooms were big but unuseful. There wasn't very many mirrors to get ready and some light sockets that didn't work. No value for the money.

for all there is to do in Hollywood. The pool area is really nice and comfortable. We'll be back!

I would go back. But...
Liked: Staff is great, Jamie is amazing. She has been working there for more time than I can remember, and I believe she represents the soul of this hotel.
Location couldn't be better, for my needs. Close to Sunset Boulevard, Close to Hollywood Walk of Fame (if that interests you), close to all the great places in LA.
Price, although growing and growing and becoming too expensive for what the hotel is, is still relatively affordable compared to the hotel prices in LA.
I have been a guest to the Highland Gardens for many years, and I'm sorry to have seen it like if it is abandoned by the owners, who should bring back the love for a hotel that has always been a lovely place to stay.
Disliked: The hotel feels and looks decayed. There are stains in the carpets, humidity and other odors in the room, and signs that the hotel hasn't been renovated or paid attention to in many years.
