A boutique Art Nouveau hotel in historic York. Minutes from the heart of the city overlooking the Knavesmire Strays lies the Elmbank Hotel a unique 19th-century mansion with a rich history. Redesigned by Mackintosh contemporary George Walton the Elmbank hotel is home to one of the finest and most complete Art Nouveau collections in the UK. Here impressive stained-glass beautiful murals and detailed stencils meld with modern and sophisticated facilities to provide a space of style comfort and interest. York's ancient city walls can be reached in just 10 minutes' walk with a further 5 to 10 minutes' walk taking guests to the historic attractions including the spectacular York Minster. Alternatively there is a bus stop outside the hotel and from there a bus in to town takes 3 minutes. York Railway Station is just a 10-minute walk or few minutes by car and the Elmbank has limited parking. There is also a bus stop near the hotel with sightseeing tours going in to town. York Racecourse is a few minutes' away.

Liked: The decor is extraordinary - beautiful arts and crafts interiors. Room was large and airy.

Check the room number when...

Liked: It was styled well and very clean.
Disliked: The room (273) was so small and cramped that I was unable to get out of bed to use the bathroom without waking my partner. Wasn't as advertised.Charged an additional £14 for overnight parking.

Had an enjoyable stay

Liked: Location of the hotel is excellent. Beautiful hotel with character. Staff very welcoming and friendly.
Disliked: Narrow staircase to room and bedroom was cramped with little space for suitcases.

Beautiful place to stay and...

Liked: Staff very friendly, the room was very clean and the bed extremely comfortable.Breakfast was very good and plenty of choice.Only a short walk into York (15 minutes), didn’t see a lift so might be a problem for less able people but there are bedrooms on ground floor I believe. Beautiful Art Deco details all over hotel, and lovely outside space to have a drink and chill, would definitely stay again.
Disliked: I believe car parking is an issue but we took the train so didn’t bother us.
