The Spotlight on American Hotel

Stay in the Heart of the Arts District

Modern, minimalist, and located in one of LA’s most creative neighborhoods, American Hotel offers a no-frills, budget-friendly stay just minutes from some of the city's biggest music venues. Nestled in the Downtown Los Angeles Arts District, this hotel puts you close to the action while keeping things simple and affordable. With free WiFi, concierge service, and air-conditioned rooms featuring flat-screen TVs, it's a smart base for music lovers on the move.

Why Concert-goers love it

If you're heading to a show at L.A. Live, Microsoft Theater, or the STAPLES Center, you’ll appreciate that all are just a short drive or ride away—about 13 minutes. The Arts District location means you’re close to venues but away from the heavier crowds, offering a more relaxed vibe post-show. While check-in starts at 3:00 PM and checkout is at 11:00 AM, the friendly staff and available concierge service help make arrival and departure smooth, even on a show night.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for an affordable crash pad near the music scene
  • Solo travelers chasing bucket-list performances
  • Couples wanting an artsy weekend escape with great shows nearby
  • Fans who prefer a quieter, creative neighborhood to unwind after a concert
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who want clean, comfortable basics without breaking the bank

Food and Drink Options

While there’s no on-site restaurant, the Arts District is packed with trendy eateries, coffee shops, and late-night bites just steps from the hotel. Whether you're grabbing a post-show snack or a lazy late breakfast, you won’t go hungry. Room service and breakfast aren’t available here, so plan to explore the local food scene—it’s worth it.

Nightlife Options

You’re in a prime spot for LA nightlife. From local breweries and rooftop bars to cozy wine lounges, the area buzzes with energy after dark. While the hotel itself is quiet, you're never far from somewhere to toast the night away, often with live music or a DJ spinning nearby.

What People Say

Guests love the clean rooms, friendly staff, and the hotel’s fantastic location in one of LA’s most walkable and artsy neighborhoods. Many reviews highlight the value for the price, especially for travelers focused on concerts and city events. The vibe is relaxed and low-key, offering a welcome break from downtown bustle.

Areas for Improvement

Rooms feature shared bathrooms, which might not suit everyone, particularly after a late night. There’s also no elevator, so be prepared for stairs if you're on an upper floor. Still, most guests find these trade-offs more than acceptable given the location and price.

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly, no-fuss stay close to LA’s top concert venues, American Hotel delivers comfort, location, and artistic character without the hefty price tag.

Comfortable Stay in Arts District

Liked: I enjoyed the simple, yet effective setup of the room. It felt like a mixture of hostel and apartment. The decor of the hotel is very inviting and esthetically nice.
Disliked: Nothing, I felt very comfortable here.

Very good

Liked: Last minute stay, let us check in early and were very helpful. Shared bathroom were often empty as there are about 3 showers per floor. Free filtered water
Disliked: - was unable to make a local phone call through hotel which I needed to talk to next hotel which added a lot of stress- there is no lift so have to carry suitcases up stairs, luckily we were only on second floor

Exceptional

Liked: All of the staff was super kind, the front desk lady Masuma was very helpful and kind when I had a booking issue! Her patience and calmness turned what could have been a stressful situation into a simple traveling story.
Disliked: The area seems safe but it can get a bit shady at night, specially if you drift further from the hotel. The immediate surroundings are full of life and food.

Wanna-be Ace Hotel but is...

Liked: The system for late check-in was good. The hotel was surprisingly quiet for a Friday night in that neighborhood, though I suspect that was because people were calm, not because of room/hotel soundproofing. Good that there's a lockable 1-person toilet/shower room; I wish I'd known that when I arrived at night and felt a bit vulnerable. The bed was comfortable enough. It satisfied basic overnight needs.
Disliked: The shared bathroom shower was old and not very clean; the basin faucets are touchless, so you have no control over water temp or flow. The building conversion to hotel rooms is very cheaply done, with sloppily plastered and painted walls, cheap vinyl flooring, loud and inefficient AC unit, and glaring single pendant light. Two makeup remover wipes (weird) but just one power outlet, behind the side table? (There's a USB port, but I prefer to use my own mini-charger brick.)

Excellent, great value.

Liked: Great location, restaurants, coffee shops, wine/convenience store steps away. The shared bathrooms on each floor are clean, with individual showers and private. Not an issue as far as I am concerned. The rooms are as nice as anything at Holiday Inn or Best Western at a fraction of the price.
Disliked: No elevator so if you are on the fourth floor some older people might find it difficult.

would book again

Liked: Nice location in the arts district with good food and clubs around. Private rooms, yet hostel vibes with lots of younger patrons. Staff is very friendly and laid back.
Disliked: Doesn't bother me, but it is not the quietest location and the rooms are not at all soundproof.

A hotel with character …in...

Liked: It has character and history. It’s in an interesting location on the border of Skid Row and the Arts district. Facilities are basic but clean. I have stayed there before and wanted to return.
Disliked: The rooms could do with some basic tea and coffee supplies and maybe a small kettle
