The Spotlight on YHA London Central

Affordable and Social Stay in the Heart of London

YHA London Central is a modern and lively hostel just a short stroll from some of London’s most iconic areas like Oxford Street, Regent’s Park, and Soho. With a casual vibe and budget-friendly prices, it’s a great base for music lovers looking to explore the city’s concert scene without breaking the bank.

The hostel features a mix of shared dorms and private rooms, plus a relaxed café-bar area and handy amenities like luggage storage and computer access. Just a 5-minute walk from Great Portland Street Tube Station, it’s super easy to get around the city day or night.

Why Concert-goers love it

Location is everything, and this hostel nails it. With several major tube lines just minutes away, getting to and from gigs is a breeze—even late into the night. The hostel’s laid-back atmosphere is perfect for post-show wind-downs, and if you’re arriving late, no worries—check-in runs from 15:00 and the reception is staffed 24/7. Sound insulation is decent for a central hostel, and the café-bar stays open late for a nightcap or post-concert snack.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for affordable shared dorms
  • Solo travelers heading to a must-see gig
  • Couples wanting to combine a concert with a weekend in London
  • Fans needing a quieter, cozy place to crash after the show
  • Budget-conscious music fans who want central access without big spending

Food and Drink Options

There’s a relaxed café and bar on-site serving up croissants, paninis, and pasties—perfect for grabbing a quick bite. While there’s no full restaurant or 24/7 room service, snacks and drinks are available late. Plus, you’re just minutes from plenty of late-night food spots around Oxford Street and Soho. Breakfast is available in the morning, even if you had a late night.

Nightlife Options

While the hostel itself doesn’t host live music, you’re within walking distance or a short tube ride from London’s top nightlife. Whether you’re after a legendary venue, a cozy pub with local brews, or a late-night club, it’s all close by. The hostel bar is a great place to meet fellow travelers before heading out.

What People Say

Guests love the central location, friendly staff, and clean, well-maintained facilities. Many highlight it as a great value for money, especially for solo travelers and groups. The relaxed social vibe and secure storage options also get frequent praise.

Areas for Improvement

The 10:00 check-out time can feel a little early after a big night out, and some guests mention that shared dorms can be a bit noisy if you’re a light sleeper. Bathrooms, while clean, are shared in most cases—so keep that in mind if you prefer more privacy.

The Bottom Line

If you're headed to a gig and want a central, affordable, and social place to stay, YHA London Central hits all the right notes.

Excellent hostel which I would...

Liked: Central location in easy walking distance from the tube or mainline stations (north). A short distance to Oxford street and London theatre district. All the basic facilities in the room for an overnight stay but bring a towel and toiletries. Excellent on site facilities with 24 hour pizza, a bar and cheap optional (non cooked) breakfast. Very helpful. And responsive staff
Disliked: No complaints

I didn't regret staying there

Liked: Everything was straight forward, the bed was good, and the first room had an AC, which was great, as the inner room was a bit stuffy otherwise. The kitchen is big and has a lot of things.
Disliked: The pillow was a bit flat, the room without AC wasn't the best temperature wise. For better privacy a curtain would be nice on the beds. And a place where you can put your stuff in the bathroom.

Pleasant

Liked: Location is great
Disliked: No aircon, just a fan that does not swing (it was so warm during the days we spent in London); small space and no floor mat for the toilet; the elevator had a bad smell when we arrived
