The Spotlight on Washington Square Hotel

Classic Village Charm Steps from the Subway

Located in the heart of Greenwich Village, the Washington Square Hotel blends classic New York charm with modern amenities. Just 105 feet from Washington Square Park and a quick stroll to the subway, this historic boutique hotel puts you in one of the city's most musical and cultural centers. Cozy rooms, a full-service spa, and old-school hospitality make it a favorite for travelers looking to experience NYC like a local.

Why Concert-goers love it

Concert-goers love this hotel’s unbeatable location—you're a short subway ride from major venues like Madison Square Garden, yet tucked into a quieter neighborhood perfect for winding down. The 24/7 front desk, nearby late-night eateries, and easy access to trains make getting to and from a show simple and stress-free. Plus, the hotel’s classic decor and calm atmosphere offer a welcome contrast to the buzz of the city.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends who want a local NYC vibe with walkable nightlife
  • Solo travelers seeing a dream show near MSG or downtown
  • Couples on a weekend concert getaway
  • Fans seeking a quieter place to recharge after the encore
  • Budget-conscious music lovers looking for value in a central location

Food and Drink Options

The hotel features an on-site restaurant for pre-show bites or a post-show nightcap. While there's no 24/7 room service, the Greenwich Village neighborhood is packed with late-night diners, pizza joints, and cafes within walking distance. Complimentary breakfast makes mornings easier, especially after a late night out.

Nightlife Options

You're surrounded by some of NYC’s most iconic bars and lounges. Whether you're into jazz clubs, dive bars, or swanky cocktail spots, it's all right outside your door. The hotel itself doesn’t offer live music, but you're minutes from some of the city’s most legendary venues.

What People Say

Guests consistently praise the hotel’s outstanding location, friendly and helpful staff, and the cozy, vintage feel. Many love the easy access to public transportation and the laid-back, residential vibe of the neighborhood. The complimentary breakfast is a crowd favorite, especially for travelers with packed concert schedules.

Areas for Improvement

Rooms can be on the smaller side, especially compared to newer hotels. If you're traveling with lots of gear or as a large group, it might feel a bit snug. The older building also means a few creaky floorboards—but that’s part of the charm for many.

The Bottom Line

If you're looking for a boutique stay with a local vibe, fast access to NYC concert venues, and a peaceful place to crash after the show, Washington Square Hotel delivers.

Absolutely not. Not for $350...

Liked: The location
Disliked: I really wanted to speak with the general manager before posting anything regarding my stay. However, after numerous attempts of trying to get a general manager‘s contact info, via email and on the phone, I have been unsuccessful and I have been no choice but to leave this review. My son and I stayed for one night at the Washington Square Hotel in mid July 2025. Based on reviews that I saw online, I thought that it would be fine for a one night stay. We were attending an event at the NYU theater and it was right across the park, so the location was very convenient. I was traveling alone with my autistic son who is seven and I didn’t want to have to deal with multiple Ubers and or the subway.Check in was relatively fast and uneventful. I had inquired if they had any vending machines because it was very hot and we needed some water after traveling. The guy at the front desk said there was a vending machine around the corner after the elevator, but only had water and soda. My son is a milk drinker, but he had to settle for water that day, no big deal. We can’t win them all.We went up to our room at first glance it looked clean. However, the longer we were in the room, the more I discovered that the room was actually filthy. The closet door was open and there was also a small utility door in the closet, and upon further inspection, I realized went to some kind of pipes. I tried to close it to the best of my ability, but it would not close tight so I put the ironing board against it and hope that nothing would creep through in the middle of the night. The bathroom had blood spots on the floor with what appeared to be an eyelash or some kind of hair in it? At that point, I was disgusted. As I pulled the sheets down for my son to get into bed, there was dark curly hair on the pillows and throughout the bedding. My son and I are both blonde. I ended up stripping all of the bedding except for the bottom sheet.

Washington is a great city

Liked: Kind and helpfull staf, location is good
Disliked: Very small & damp double bedroom and no coffee maker. Unfortunately we found cockroaches in the bathroom. The extra hotel services fee was a surprise. This hotel is not worth the money they ask for a room.

Location, location, location

Liked: Amazing location in Greenwich Village right on the border of Washington Square Park.
Disliked: The older style brings charm, but also seems dated
