Overwhelmingly disappointing.
Liked: Location
Disliked: The property is extremely basic and in extreme need of redecoration. The quality of the bedrooms is less than good. I have stayed in literally hundreds of hotels around the UK and Europe and have never seen such a small bathroom in my life to the point that if you were standing at the basin and someone tried to enter at the same time you would almost certainly be hit by the opening door. A potential injury issue. We paid almost £175 per night for a three night stay which did not include breakfasts which they wanted an extra £24 per person per day. On arrival we were advised that the room rate included a couple of bottles of water, wow what a bargain. There is zero sound insulation/ sound proofing to the room which was facing on to a staggeringly busy and noisy road. We were on the 5th floor therefore needed to use the lift as we had luggage to carry. Two major issues with the lift, one, it is tiny and if you have any luggage you cannot turn around if there is anymore than two people in the lift. If you are the slightest claustrophobic you will have a problem. If you like your lifts to arrive speedily then forget it. If you decide to use the stairwells instead then get ready for another experience. They are in dyer need of redecoration and maintenance with painted walls ingrained with dirt, carpet on stairs worn where there is no edge protection and wall coverings coming away from the walls. Housekeeping did not turn up on second day. Definitely the worst Thistle hotel I have ever stayed in and probably not worth any more than £50 per night even at London rates.

Good
Liked: The staff were fantastic: they were very helpful and quick to try to sort any problems - providing fans for the room. I also liked their initiative whereby if you stay for more than 2 nights and don't need housekeeping, if you put a sign on your door, you get a free breakfast the next morning. The location was great - 20 min walk to Covent Gardens, 20 min walk to King Cross and a few minutes to the nearest tube, Russell Square. Great to be so close to The British Museum too.
Disliked: The room we had booked (114) was unbearably hot - it was like the heating was on within the room. For the money paid, this was not acceptable. The fans helped, but it was difficult to sleep.

No good in summer as...
Liked: Friendly staff, walkable to the West End, hotel very clean
Disliked: The room didn’t have air conditioning so had to have the window open overnight. Like most central hotels it it was noisy so didn’t get a good nights sleep.
