The Spotlight on The Roundabout Hotel

A Laid-Back Stay Near Portsmouth’s Music Scene

Modern comfort meets countryside charm at The Roundabout Hotel, located just a 10-minute drive from Portsmouth town centre and the scenic South Downs National Park. With cozy rooms, free Wi-Fi, and an on-site restaurant serving English and French cuisine, this hotel offers a relaxed, unfussy base for music lovers exploring the coastal concert circuit.

Whether you're catching a show in Portsmouth or taking in the sea breeze at nearby Lee-on-Solent, The Roundabout keeps you close to the action while offering a quiet place to recharge afterward.

Why Concert-goers love it

Conveniently located for gigs in Portsmouth, The Roundabout Hotel is a smart choice for those who want to avoid city-centre crowds but still be within easy reach. It's a short drive or taxi ride from major venues, and with free on-site parking, it’s especially handy for road-tripping fans. Guests appreciate the quiet surroundings, perfect for unwinding after a loud night out. While check-in starts at 15:00, the relaxed vibe and helpful staff make arrival and departure smooth—even for those on a post-concert schedule.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a casual, budget-friendly base near Portsmouth
  • Solo travelers chasing bucket-list gigs with a peaceful night’s sleep after
  • Couples turning a concert into a weekend getaway
  • Fans who prefer a quiet spot to recharge after the show
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who want value without compromising comfort

Food and Drink Options

The on-site 70-seat restaurant serves up English and French cuisine with both à la carte and buffet options. While there's no 24/7 room service, late dining is possible depending on kitchen hours, and you can always grab a tea or coffee in your room. After a late night, you’ll appreciate the hearty breakfast options available—ideal for a slow start the next morning.

Nightlife Options

The hotel itself is more on the quiet side, perfect for those looking to escape the noise after a show. But if you're still buzzing from the music, Portsmouth’s pubs, bars, and live music spots are just a short cab ride away. Lee-on-Solent also offers some coastal nightlife for those wanting a seaside pint.

What People Say

Guests consistently mention the friendly staff, clean rooms, and free Wi-Fi as highlights. Many reviewers loved the easy access to Portsmouth and described the hotel as “great value for money.” The on-site restaurant also earns praise for its quality and variety.

Areas for Improvement

Some visitors noted that the decor is a bit dated, and you may want to bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper, just in case. Late-night food options are a bit limited, especially after restaurant hours—but there are nearby takeaways if you're peckish post-show.

The Bottom Line

If you're catching a gig in Portsmouth and want a quiet, affordable place to crash with easy access to both city and coast, The Roundabout Hotel hits all the right notes.

We did not enjoy our...

Liked: Breakfast was good with good options available. The twins who we dealt with in the evening and the morning were friendly and approachable
Disliked: Very dirty room. Extremely dirty windows which were covered in big cobwebs, one pillow was very heavily stained and had a rip on it. One of the bathroom lights didn’t work and was falling out the socket, behind the toilet had a big build up of dust and was generally very dirty. The walls are very thin and you can hear people next door. The hotel is in a busy location, the room had the framework for secondary glazing but the actual glass was missing so noise was a big problem so we weren’t able to have a good sleep.

Pleasant

Liked: Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient.
Disliked: The room was small and tired, needs a refurb. Secondary glazing had been removed and so it was very noisy from traffic . Shower needed the bits of mould dealing with. Was ok for the one night we needed.
