Charming Heritage Stay Minutes from Portsmouth's Music Scene

The Pier is a historic, elegant guesthouse located in the heart of Portsmouth, just a short stroll from Clarence Pier and Southsea's thriving cultural hub. Set in a Grade II-listed building on Bellevue Terrace, it blends period charm with modern comforts, offering a relaxed and personal atmosphere that’s ideal after a night out.

Why Concert-goers love it

This hotel’s location is a major win — you can walk to major venues like South Parade Pier and the Pyramids Centre in under 10 minutes. With free Wi-Fi throughout, you can easily upload your concert pics before crashing into bed. The vibe is quiet and low-key, offering a calm space to unwind after the show. And while check-in starts at 16:30, the friendly staff are happy to help with flexible arrangements when possible.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Solo travelers attending a must-see gig
  • Couples making a romantic weekend of it
  • Fans wanting a quieter post-concert recovery space
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who don’t want to skimp on style

Food and Drink Options

Start your day right with a freshly cooked full English breakfast — ideal for those recovering from a late night. While there’s no on-site restaurant, you’re just steps away from Portsmouth’s buzzing café and restaurant scene, where late-night bites and drinks are easy to find.

Nightlife Options

Though The Pier itself is a peaceful retreat, you’re within walking distance of Portsmouth's bars, pubs, and music lounges. Whether you’re in the mood for a quiet pint or an afterparty vibe, you’ll find something to suit nearby at Gunwharf Quays or along the seafront.

What People Say

Guests love the clean, stylish rooms and the hotel’s unbeatable location for exploring Portsmouth’s music and cultural attractions. Reviewers often mention the warm hospitality, fast Wi-Fi, and how easy it is to get to the pier and surrounding venues.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests note that the rooms can be a bit compact, and the pod-style bathrooms — while modern — may feel snug for some. There’s also no lift, so those with heavy luggage or mobility concerns should be aware.

The Bottom Line

A charming, quiet spot within walking distance of Portsmouth’s top concert venues — The Pier is a great choice for music fans who want comfort, character, and convenience.

Pleasant enough family run B&B

Liked: The room was nice, the staff was great, the location was a short walk to historic areas, pubs and restaurants. It’s als near a park and the sea. They are almost directly at a bus stop on a good route if you want to go to other parts of the city. The breakfast was especially nice and particularly reasonable at 7.50 Pounds.
Disliked: The building is from the 1800’s with narrow, steep staircases which I found difficult to Carry my suitcase up or down. You need to hold the suitcase in front or back of you while navigating a steep climb or descent. There is also no air conditioning, but it was not hot in the evening.

We’d stay again.

Liked: Great location for our trip. Excellent breakfast and wonderful, friendly hosts.
Disliked: We had a room facing a busy street on a Saturday night. It quieted down late.

A hidden gem in Portsmouth!

Liked: A hidden gem in Portsmouth! Perfect location if you don't have a car as bus passes by every 10-15 minutes. The Historic Dockyard and Gunwharf Quays are only a few minutes away. Ruhal and his Mum were so nice and Friendly and accommodating and fun to chat to. Her breakfast was great and very personalized service. King room was very nice, though the elevated bathroom and shower was a little awkward at first. The front room is beautiful and has lots of games and books on Portsmouth and the Royal Navy. Really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again when in Portsmouth.
Disliked: On 2 of the 3 nights, there was some loud traffic noise, but that could have been due to a large event while we were there.

Excellent in every way!

Liked: We loved our two night stay at The Pier. It’s a first class place. Rahul was very welcoming. It was only a 15-20 minute walk to the Historic Dockyards and central to the city centre. Our fully cooked breakfasts were so good. We wished we could have stayed longer!
Disliked: Nothing
