Good

Liked: The building and the decoration of the place are beautiful. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. Pillows are exceptional.
Disliked: Well, where do I start? We stayed in this place last year, and it was a real gem. That was under old management, and the staff was treating us like a family. They told us that, unfortunately, they ceased their business for the next year.So we decided to give it a go this year. We are three couples, siblings, who meet there for a family reunion. This time, all was different. The check-in time is at 3 pm. There was no heating until 4.30 and only when we actually demanded. However, after 5 p.m., the heating kicked in in the rooms and came to the point that we shut radiators and opened windows. I am really a greenhouse plant and like it warm, but it was hot even for me. As a result, sleeping was torture. I had to get up a couple of times to splash my face with water. I didn't consume any alcohol. I don't drink. So it was my sober experience. What an extreme: no heating, than overheating. I booked a twin room. Was given double. Complained. Was given keys to twin, which turned out to be king. Complained. Was given keys. That was again king size. I was so exhausted going up and down. And there was only 1 person in the whole pub, bar and reception area. Eventually, he phoned someone, and they turned the king into a twin. But the bad impression was already created. The food was tasty, but...for a roast I had on my plate 2 water thin slices of turkey. I'm not kidding. I could see through them. I should have complained and asked for more, but I was so hungry that I ate them immediately and only then thought about sending the plate back. I also had 3 small pieces of potato. The quarters. Three! Not kidding. One piece of small half parsnip and one small half carrot. One Yorkshire and chewy shredded Brussels. I paid £25 for that!!!The barman was grumpy all evening. We felt very unwelcome. We decided to find a different place for family reunions in the future. Will not be coming back. The waitresses were nice, though.

Lovely and homely

Liked: Love decor, clean and homely. Bed very comfortable, sheets lovely and soft. Nice and warm.
Disliked: Hot water issue. Wasn’t able to have a bath, or a hot shower. Had to boil kettle to get hot water. Needed boosting in the main system, but didn’t boost enough.

Hot, uncomfortable and noisy.

Liked: Location was quaint.
Disliked: Background white noise from the water pipes and nearby kitchen vents, room was very hot but too much noise from the kitchen to open the window. Slept awful and no staff around in the morning to check out, check out box was not explained to me.
