Liked: Great location for oulton park race circuit Lots of free off-road parking, which would be no issue with big trailersGreat breakfast. No nonsense full english, well cooked and tasty. Cereal available but no fruit or yoghurt etc. Nice orange juice. The owner was very accommodating with the earliest breakfast we could have to get us to the circuit on time, asked us if we would like the same again the following day Really appreciated both. Problem with the tv in the room but was quickly resolved with the use of a fire stick provided and installed by the owners daughter with a complimentary drink at the bar for the inconvenience. Very impressive customer service. Spacious room, it was a hot day, but windows were open, and a large fan was running to have the room cool for our arrival. It was much appreciated. Large bed, spotless bedding, and towels. Cute complimentary shampoo and shower gel. Despite all of the negatives mentioned below, the owner and staff, with their can-do attitude, more than made up for them, and we wouldn't hesitate to book again if we were in the area. Price is pretty competitive when you take into account the nice breakfast, which is sometimes charged separately at other venues.
Disliked: Impressive building but not made the most of. It could be stunning. Room had appropriate repro period furniture, but no mats were provided, so previous guests had damaged wood surfaces wth liquid and heat, such a shame No iron or hairdryer that I could see. Despite being mentioned in numerous previous reviews, there was no glass or cup in the bathroom , not a single hook or rail to hang wet towels or dressing gowns etc, all cheap, easy fixes. Arrived on friday, had read that a complimentary buffet was the only food available on a fri Eve. Whilst a nice gesture, there was little evidence of this when we arrived early evening so not to be relied upon. Possibly the biggest issue was the glasses, bottles and rubbish everywhere. Outside in the car park, on the driveway, in the public corridors, on lots of tables and seating areas. Just didn't give a good impression and would have only taken half an hour or so to sort out. Bar was full of bikers when we arrived. It's obviously popular with passing trade and locals, and the bar was quite busy and noisy. Non-resident bar visitors were very loud and boisterous as they left the hotel reasonably late, so a peacful night sleep not guaranteed. They show sports on tv so pick your dates carefully. It's possibly not the quiet country retreat it appears to be on the website, more a busy local with out of area visitors staying over.
