Lovely stay as usual

Liked: We stayed here on our way home from our honeymoon, we requested room 3 as we have stayed in that room numerous times and love it, there was also a bottle of prosecco in the room which was a lovely touch

Very good

Liked: Very nice suite away from main hotel building so very quiet. We only noticed the following day that we could have had more or less individual parking right outside our room.
Disliked: An extractor fan needs to be fitted in the bathroom as there is no window there.

Charming Inn to stay at...

Liked: We booked a one night stay here to break up a long journey to Scotland. It was a lovely quiet location not far from Barnard Castle and just off the A66. It has a lovely old world charm to the place and the staff were really friendly and helpful. We had a very generous sized room (we travelled with our small dog) so it was great to be able to spread out. The bar was open when we arrived and we took advantage of the facility for a night cap. The barman was so friendly and helpful, told us about the history of the building and made a fuss of our dog. We were sorry that we were only here for one night really.
Disliked: Can't think of anything really.

Adequate stay for money paid

Liked: Food was excellent.
Disliked: Service was very slow apart from the bar. Hotel rooms looked a little tired and some en-suites need refurbs. Wifi poor.

Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Disappointing

Liked: The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the evening meal was excellent
Disliked: We saw booking.com 4 star rating and assumed it was a 4 star hotel, it's a 3 star. Our room was tired and run down with paint flaking off the ceiling in the shower and ensuite basin cabinet with vinyl peeled off in parts. There was black mould around the base of the shower enclosure and on the grouting on the tiles. There was a miniscule amount of shower gel left in the shower and we couldn't turn on the TV even after fetching new batteries from reception. Breakfast was disappointing, nobody at the restaurant entrance to seat us and one couple in front of us already waiting to be seated. I ordered eggs benedict to be told there was no gammon and it would be bacon instead. One of the guests on a table nearby was left that long that he had to go and ask for hot drinks and toast.

Extreamly disappointing having driven up...

Liked: Set in beautiful location
Disliked: Had to change my original room due to smell of fat from extractor outside window. Next bedroom was ok except for crumbs or at least I think they were on duvet and blood stains on main sheet that had obviously not come out in wash previously. Mould around bath and hole where broken tile had come away. Evening meal had your Berger which was so hard and couldn’t eat it and wine overpriced. Had massage in Spa which was totally inadequate. Paid for neck and back 25 mins. It certainly didn’t last that long ( checked watch ) and my neck wasn’t touched. All in all a very dissatisfying session and again certainly not worth it
