The Spotlight on The Hawes Inn by Innkeeper's Collection

Scenic Riverside Escape with Easy Access to Edinburgh Gigs

Modern comforts meet historic charm at The Hawes Inn by Innkeeper's Collection, a cosy country-style hotel overlooking the iconic Firth of Forth railway bridge. Located just a 20-minute drive from Edinburgh city centre, this inn offers a peaceful riverside retreat that still keeps you close to the action. With classic interiors, roaring log fires, and a traditional pub atmosphere, it’s an ideal base for concert nights with a touch of Scottish charm.

Rooms come equipped with flat-screen TVs, private bathrooms, and tea/coffee facilities, with many offering beautiful views of the river and the Forth Bridge. You're also within minutes of local attractions like Deep Sea World and two nearby golf courses, if you're extending your stay beyond the music scene.

Why Concert-goers love it

If you're heading into Edinburgh for a show, this inn is a great pick for a quiet night’s sleep after the encore. The hotel’s location just outside the city centre means less late-night noise and easier parking. With 12:00pm checkout, you can sleep in after a late show, and the attached pub means no need to hunt down a nightcap. While public transport options are available, driving or rideshare may be more convenient for late returns.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends who want a scenic, social base
- Solo travelers seeing a bucket-list act and wanting a peaceful stay
- Couples on a romantic weekend with music and views
- Fans needing a chill post-concert recovery space
- Budget-conscious music lovers who don’t mind being just outside the city

Food and Drink Options

The attached country pub and restaurant serves hearty dishes like braised pork belly and cheese-topped fish pie – perfect after a gig. While there’s no 24/7 room service, you’ll find evening dining and a warming log fire into the night. Breakfast is available the next morning, ideal if you’ve been out late. There are also other eateries a short drive away in the nearby town of South Queensferry.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself is more about classic pub charm than clubbing, the on-site bar is a lovely place to wind down with a pint. For more nightlife, head into Edinburgh for a wide selection of bars, clubs, and live music venues – all within a 20-minute drive.

What People Say

Guests love the river views, historic atmosphere, and friendly staff. The pub is frequently praised for its food and character, and the rooms are noted as clean, comfortable, and quiet. Many appreciate the location as a peaceful alternative to the city bustle.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that the building is a bit older, with stairs and no lift – something to consider if accessibility is a concern. Being outside the city means you’ll need your own transport or plan ahead for cabs after a late gig.

The Bottom Line

A charming riverside stay with character, comfort, and easy access to Edinburgh’s music scene — perfect for fans who want a relaxed night after the show.

Pleasantly surprised by this nostalgic...

Liked: I booked this because of the proximity to Edinburgh Airport, after our trip into Scotland and collecting our rental car. It was a really pleasant surprise, both the inn and the village of South Queensferry. Gillian and her team have made the inn a home away from home, with comfortable rooms and fantastic food, both the Sunday roast we enjoyed and the breakfast (you can select a dish from the breakfast menu). From the moment you step outside (and actually even from the window of our room) there are fantastic views on the Forth bridges and the walk to the village and its harbor was nice.
Disliked: Nothing, it was mainly a very pleasant surprise.

Quaint, comfortable and fantastic views...

Liked: We liked the restaurant and loved the view of the Firth and area around Hawes Inn.
Disliked: We kindly asked if the front desk could call a taxi for us and Kate at the front desk recoiled as she said "we don't do that here!". It forced us 71 and 75 year olds to climb the 122 stairs with our luggage and backpacks and trek through the forest to our train station.

Unique spot but you don’t...

Liked: Location is excellent.
Disliked: Checking into the bar for reception. When I found a wallet outside their door they were hesitant to take it. When I checked back later that day to see if it was picked up, no one knew about it and the person behind the bar was very dismissive.

Nice accomodation , poor service...

Liked: Hotel location was excellent, Room was large and comfortable with excellent views of the Forth
Disliked: Staff had to be directed by management to check us in as we stood for circa 10 minutes waiting to be attended whilst 5 members of staff milled around ignoring the fact that guests were waiting to be served .Evening meal was very poor with one main course having to be sent back to the kitchen twice to be cooked properly before staff were informed to forget it and please have the course removed from the bill.
