The Spotlight on The Hawes Inn by Innkeeper's Collection

Scenic Riverside Escape with Easy Access to Edinburgh Gigs

Modern comforts meet historic charm at The Hawes Inn by Innkeeper's Collection, a cosy country-style hotel overlooking the iconic Firth of Forth railway bridge. Located just a 20-minute drive from Edinburgh city centre, this inn offers a peaceful riverside retreat that still keeps you close to the action. With classic interiors, roaring log fires, and a traditional pub atmosphere, it’s an ideal base for concert nights with a touch of Scottish charm.

Rooms come equipped with flat-screen TVs, private bathrooms, and tea/coffee facilities, with many offering beautiful views of the river and the Forth Bridge. You're also within minutes of local attractions like Deep Sea World and two nearby golf courses, if you're extending your stay beyond the music scene.

Why Concert-goers love it

If you're heading into Edinburgh for a show, this inn is a great pick for a quiet night’s sleep after the encore. The hotel’s location just outside the city centre means less late-night noise and easier parking. With 12:00pm checkout, you can sleep in after a late show, and the attached pub means no need to hunt down a nightcap. While public transport options are available, driving or rideshare may be more convenient for late returns.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends who want a scenic, social base
- Solo travelers seeing a bucket-list act and wanting a peaceful stay
- Couples on a romantic weekend with music and views
- Fans needing a chill post-concert recovery space
- Budget-conscious music lovers who don’t mind being just outside the city

Food and Drink Options

The attached country pub and restaurant serves hearty dishes like braised pork belly and cheese-topped fish pie – perfect after a gig. While there’s no 24/7 room service, you’ll find evening dining and a warming log fire into the night. Breakfast is available the next morning, ideal if you’ve been out late. There are also other eateries a short drive away in the nearby town of South Queensferry.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself is more about classic pub charm than clubbing, the on-site bar is a lovely place to wind down with a pint. For more nightlife, head into Edinburgh for a wide selection of bars, clubs, and live music venues – all within a 20-minute drive.

What People Say

Guests love the river views, historic atmosphere, and friendly staff. The pub is frequently praised for its food and character, and the rooms are noted as clean, comfortable, and quiet. Many appreciate the location as a peaceful alternative to the city bustle.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that the building is a bit older, with stairs and no lift – something to consider if accessibility is a concern. Being outside the city means you’ll need your own transport or plan ahead for cabs after a late gig.

The Bottom Line

A charming riverside stay with character, comfort, and easy access to Edinburgh’s music scene — perfect for fans who want a relaxed night after the show.

Excellent for stay, eat and...

Liked: I had a little comfortable, nicely furnitured, well equipped suit. Their restaurant serves excellent food and drinks. Unfortunately I cannot taste their breakfast because I had to leave early morning but one of the main reasons was that the airport would be near. It is also very near to the spectacles of the main street. The view of the old metal railway bridge is fantastic from the direct surround of the hotel. It has a huge car park.
Disliked: Someone who is disturbed by the noise of the trains what they make during their way on a metal bridge doesn't choose this place. But I wasn't.

Would have been perfect but...

Liked: Delightful hotel, lovely food and nice staff.
Disliked: Didn’t sleep a wink due to boy racers screaming past our window until 2am in the morning, it was very alarming and I couldn’t settle all night.

Disappointing

Liked: Staff trying hard under obviously difficult circumstances - i.e. under-staffed, over-worked and very busy. Cooked breakfast was good, although weirdly priced. En-suite was good. The lady who was on breakfast duty was lovely, running about, trying to welcome, order, serve and explain the strange pricing to bewildered tourists.
Disliked: Lots! We stayed here two years ago and it was lovely, hence our return. Now it's over-priced, short-staffed, and doesn't have the same "care and attention" feel about it. The dinner food was average, my top three dinner choices weren't available. We paid a B&B rate but this only qualifies you for one choice at breakfast - i.e you can't have porridge AND cooked breakfast, very weird! Felt sorry for those that paid room only and were told that every item was paid for individually! Lots of mystified tourists. Our room overlooked the Forth but was poorly decorated and poorly laid out with a rock-hard bed and strange pillows. Not value for money at all. Boy-racers outside the hotel in the evening, very noisy. To be fair, that isn't the hotel's fault and I understand that they are trying to put a stop to them, co-operating with the local authorities and powers-that-be.

Nice place and view of...

Liked: Clean, spacious room and friendly staff.
Disliked: It’s located at bottom of a brae and has a car park opposite which attracts “boy racers” who are driving/racing past with cars that have very loud exhausts. This would go on until the early hours and we would not stay again due to this. However I am aware that the hotel can’t do anything about this.
