The Grand Hotel

Conveniently situated from arena. Car parking nearby. Nicely decorated. Comfortable beds, pillows. Shame the bathroom in room 103 stank of drains. Due to staying after a concert with a child in tow, it was too late/difficult to complain after 11pm. On check out around 8.30am the morning receptionist was non plus about my comment/complaint and whilst she did say a half heartened ‘sorry’ - it didn’t sound genuine and there was no further conversation to be had.

Liked: Comfortable bed. Plenty of tea/coffee, bedroom supplies.
Disliked: Room 103 - bathroom stank of drains the whole time. Very unpleasant. The morning receptionist provided a weak ‘sorry’ bit wasn’t overly interested.

Very good location; excellent room; top class food and drink; excellent customer service.

Liked: Customer service; very clean room; excellent on site food and drink; breakfast top class.

We had a noise problem from other guests, so they moved our room. They were all very good and understanding, though it appeared that the noisy guests had created problems on other nights and police were called out. So why, when knowing that they had a guest issue we were put in a room by the problem, I'm unsure but we were moved very quickly. Decor was a bit hit and miss in some areas and cleaning was an issue. Breakfast was wonderful. if a little slow, but great choice.

Liked: Staff and breakfast.
Disliked: Decor needing attention.

Exceptional

Not very Grand

Disliked: The photos of the hotel on website made it appear to be some Grand hotel with 5-10 stories, nothing like that. Very uncomfortable beds, noisy, like your falling off the beds. Very noisy street, construction working going on hotel when we stayed on 19/08/25. Lack of lights and sockets to charge devices. TV remote not working in our room 112.

Not impressed

Disliked: Air conditioning not working.. very warm night..my room at the back of the hotel was a building site and they started the digger machine up at 07:00 to move some buckets.

Would never stay there again.

Liked: Close to the station
Disliked: Small double bedroom was too hot and not a single opening window or vent. The air con unit in the room (and many others) did not work at all. Many complaints. They offered some people (not us) a portable air con unit, but apparently they are really noisy and would never get to sleep with it switched on.

Not overly impressed

Liked: It was clean
Disliked: Overpowering use of perfumes throughout hotel via aircon system felt choking. Fridge & shower constantly leaking. Bed uncomfortably worn so we landslid towards each other. No where to put bathroom bits except beside toilet.

Liked: The room was very good , the staff were very pleasant but we were not overly impressed with the food.
Disliked: Food in the restaurant.

Passable

Liked: The hotel was satisfactory. Central location near train station. No on-site parking was available. The hotel was clean but dated. The staff were courteous and professional.
