Disappointing
Liked: The location is on one of Richmond's interesting streets.
Disliked: Despite the name of this hotel ("The Frenchgate Restaurant and Hotel") there is no restaurant and, in fact, it's been closed for a few years. It really is just a bed and breakfast but charging hotel rates. I think a lot of travellers think they can get an evening meal in the hotel, but instead are handed a print out of local places to eat. The website is still advertising a restaurant and you have to click on an announcement to read that the restaurant has been closed. It really is a misrepresentation of the situation. I am a professional woman who was travelling for leisure on my own (walking the coast to coast). When the proprietor showed me the double bed, he said ~"You never know, you might get lucky". Really? In this day and age? He really would be better if he kept this type of inappropriate comment to himself.

Last minute overnight stay
Liked: Hotel was central. Our upgraded room was lovely, very spacious, clean.
Disliked: The room we booked (standard double, without breakfast) on booking.com stated private bathroom. We were told when we checked in that it didnt have a private bathroom but had a shower head coming out the wall. We were told by the gentleman on reception that he would upgrade us to a superior double with not having a private bathroom, however, we had to order a breakfast from him to get the superior room. We ordered the breakfast even though on our confirmation it stated standard double with private bathroom.

Excellent short stay in a lovely boutique style hotel. Would recommend.
Liked: Georgian property situated on a lovely street in the centre of Richmond. The hotel is well appointed with a lounge and breakfast area for guests. We booked a large executive double room which was very comfortable, with excellent en suite facilities. All of the hotel was clean, and breakfast was of good quality with a full range of traditional and continental options available. All staff were courteous and friendly during our stay.
Disliked: Nothing. Only small issue was slower internet coverage throughout the hotel, and our room would benefit from additional lighting.

Visiting for a Wedding
Liked: Location was ideal for our purpose of a family wedding weekend. Especially as I was travelling with friends who rented Air B&B opposite
Disliked: Thought it was high price, particularly the breakfast at nearly 17 and a glass of wine on the wine list was very high. Weatherspoons just around the corner!! When the sun is up, you're up as blinds do not block the light and room extremely hot later on in the day. Disappointed for friends who were put in the Annexe with no en-suite and damp and mould on the walls of their room. Totally Unacceptable and spoilt the ambience. They were moved having complained but had to pay a 20 daily supplement for an available upgraded room.
