Disaster, uninhabitable, avoid

Disliked: The air conditioning doesn't work - at all. The rooms were oven-like with no opening windows. Absolutely impossible to stay here as it was middle of July. Staff told us that engineers were trying to repair it and that the required part had arrived that morning. This turned out to be total fabrication and that the a/c (and thus the heating/hot water in winter) had been broken for months. Carpets were also filthy. We checked out and found another hotel nearby

Passable

Liked: Location Central and near cinema, food etc
Disliked: £50 security deposit taken from my account, and then to be returned within 9-10 days? Rooms were small, air con insufficient in high temps, blood stain in carpet.I stayed there several years ago when there was a pool, felt much less luxurious this time, shabby in places

Awful

Liked: the ac unit was down when called them to send someone to help fix it they turned around and said “it’s not been working for ages can’t help you” could barely stay in the room as it was so hot, they did give us a fan (also blew out hot air)
Disliked: room was nice, not being informed about the ac was bad from them

Very good

Liked: Breakfast was very good, plenty of options to choose from, the Bed comfort was very good and we had a very good view, in general happy with stay.
Disliked: The lighting in the room was quite dark, especially in the main bedroom area, the air conditioning didn't work and was provided with a fan, which was ok but not great

Too hot to even comprehend

Liked: The decor and the view from the room
Disliked: When checking in, the lady at reception did inform me of the lack of air con. When I got to the room I had been provided with a fan. I thought it would be ok, so I took a cold shower. Upon entering the bedroom the heat was too much. I had to check out immediately. This was after realising I was right under a club or something. I have stayed at the Cube countless times. It is my number 1 chosen hotel in Birmingham always. But this time was not satisfactory. Guests should have been informed about the aircon before their arrival and the option for a refund should have been given.

Stay somewhere else if you...

Liked: Apartment was clean. Location was good
Disliked: Staff when I got there were cold and unwelcoming. Only 2 lifts and no stairs so lift was typically always packed. Room was far too hot as no air conditioning.- just a fan to blow more hot air around the room. If you're near the top floor you can hear and feel the beat of the party at the top that goes on until 1am. Despite being apparently warned about it, you can't hear yourself think. In the end I checked out at about 7pm and went to Malmaison which I would recommend.
