Disliked: My room 311 had 2 low ceilings and I hit my head several times

Disappointing!

Liked: Location for centre of Carlisle was excellent. Beds were comfortable.
Disliked: We booked three rooms and two were very basic and in need of refurbishment. Showers didn’t effectively work in these rooms. Lighting was poor.

Loved the classic hotel ambiance.

Liked: The classic feel of the hotel and the history of it.
Disliked: The hotel needs some updating to give it that feel like it was in its hay day. Mattresses need to be replaced.

Liked: Breakfast buffet was good and the food was regularly replenishedThe lovely lady, who was the sole member of staff, was the chef, checked patrons' room numbers, cleared the tables and cleaned the kitchen. Clearly under pressure, on a busy morning with a constant stream of people, she was friendly and helpful. She kindly filled our water bottles before we set off for Hadrian's WallHer customer service was excellent under pressure.

Liked: I would highly advise to avoid this property at any cost possible!!!!
Disliked: We had a room booked in The County Hotel in Carlisle .At 10pm the receptionist phoned stating the room has encountered damage and they had to move us to another hotel. The hotel they moved us to was of much lower standard and their rooms were priced much lower than the original hotel. When enquired that with The County Hotel ( I asked them to either check me in into original room I booked or refund difference in price) they stated that from their point they have done all that can be done. This issue has been raised with booking and awaiting resolution.As per booking terms and conditions if the hotel has to move guests it has to be to a hotel of same or higher standard. This was not fulfilled.The worst experience with hotel so far! Would avoid at any cost!!!!

Disliked: Very noisy rooms due to the streetside location. On check-in and check-out, dirty linen was left laying on the passageway corners.

Disliked: Rooms were a rabbit warren to get toStaff didn’t have our booking, even though it was confirmed with booking.com???They managed to find a room for us, luckily it wasn’t booked out

Liked: Location was good. Staff very pleasant. Food no problems .Maria in breakfast room very busy on her own . But always a smile and helpful. Comfortable beds
Disliked: Hotel was as reported RUN DOWN . Past its best . Eventually managed to open window a little as it was very hot .Lift was scary but did work . Bathroom needed attention re -tiles bath frame , needs another hold rail in shower , not everyone is young and fit !!! . Overall it is worth the money charged.wouldnt want to stay more than 2 nights .
