Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

A bit disappointing.

Liked: Initially I thought the room was quite pleasant, and considering it was a single room, it wasn't pokey and was quite roomy and comfortable. The location right by the canal was a very pleasant surprise.
Disliked: The room was very hot despite the radiator being turned off, and unfortunately the room overlooked the kitchens of the pub, so with the window open, it was quite noisy and a bit smelly from the kitchen. The main issue I had, was that early in the morning (before 8am), I was woken by a man speaking very loudly on his mobile right outside my room.He then proceeded to clatter up and down the stairs, and bang in and out of the rooms either side of my room, banging and hammering. When I got up to go for breakfast I realised that it was actually 2 decorators who were working in the 2 rooms either side.It perhaps wouldn't have been so annoying if I'd been warned ahead of my arrival, or perhaps I could have been moved to a different room.So much for my planned lie-in, especially as check out isn't until 12pm!Sadly the breakfast was very underwhelming, so overall it wasn't a complete success. Also I didn't realise how slippery the shower would be without a shower mat, which isn't provided ( you have to request one in the pub, which is a separate building to where my room was.)Overall it was a bit disappointing.

Friendly staff but mediocre food.

Liked: Friendly and helpful staff, all very busy. A lovely cocktail, freshly made before me. Kettle in room so I could make my own tea and restaurant manager kindly gave me a little jug of fresh milk.Plenty of parking.
Disliked: Dinner was not great - very chewy steak and undercooked green beans. Did not sleep well due to noise from ? vent with the window open. Could not turn the bathroom radiator off, which made the whole (small single) room rather hot.l, even with the window open. Also, there was ongoing noise from ? creaking floorboards from other bedrooms. Very cheap instant coffee in the room with long life milk cartons and one cheap biscuit, but at least there was a kettle!
