Bathrooms have a bath or shower complementary toiletries and a hairdryer. A full Cumberland breakfast is served daily including locally produced Cumberland sausages. A lighter option of cereals pastries and fresh juices is also available. Downstairs the pub serves light meals and bar snacks and a separate restaurant area serves a full menu with daily specials. A pleasant beer garden is a quiet setting to enjoy a drink or meal. The village of Talkin lies 9 miles east of Carlisle and around 3 miles from the smaller market town of Brampton. The tranquil Talkin Tarn lake is just 5 minutes' drive from The Blacksmiths Arms while a trip to Hadrian's Wall takes around 25 minutes.

Pleasant

Liked: Easy check-in. Clean comfortable room.
Disliked: We didn't get breakfast because we had to set off early (just before before 8am) to join an 11 mile sponsored hike, and the hotel only serves breakfast between 8-9am. It would have been good to at least offer some self service breakfast before 8am (cereal, toast, fruit, tea & coffee).

Clean and comfortable village pub...

Liked: Clean and comfortable room and good pub grub on the evening of our arrival.
Disliked: Disappointed that breakfast of some description wasn’t available before 8am (we had to leave then for a long distance walk).

Very good

Liked: Friendly, food was good.
Disliked: Breakfast was rather slow, but I would not deter anybody from visiting.
