Good in parts

Liked: Location was good and the breakfast was also good especially for a smaller hotel.
Disliked: In mitigation we stayed just over a week after the hotel had a lightning strike, a result of which the TV in the room wasn't working. We weren't told about this when we checked in and when we brought it up were told an engineer was on his way. The staff we spoke to about the TV didn't seem to want to take responsibility for the problem, just wanting to defer it to someone else despite their not actually being on the premises. As we were only there for one night that meant they were just ignoring it in effect, not a response a guest should expect. The staff member who checked us in was friendly and professional and she was also good the following morning when we were given a refund of some of the cost of the stay. Our room was £260 for the night, which based on the size of the room, facilities etc seemed expensive. The refund of £60 brought it down to what felt a fair price. The hotel is in a good position, but we felt it was a little expensive and some of the staff could be more focussed on the guest experience.

Lovely place to stay for...

Liked: The hotel was kind enough to upgrade us to a larger room, which was more than enough for us for one night. Unfortunatley we didn't have time to take a soak in the freestanding bath, but the shower was refreshing.
Disliked: I had to get up too early to jump on a train so didn't get to enjoy the breakfast or the bath.

Nice room, nice bar, avoid...

Liked: Nice room, rather small but very nice and a comfortable bed.
Disliked: However, the bathroom is in dire need of updating with a sort of half shower arrangement over the bath with 2 shower curtains. The staff were nice and the bar had a nice atmosphere. I had a roast dinner at 7:45pm - it was tepid and the roast potatoes were like bullets

An excellent few days in...

Liked: The hotel was in an excellent location, and we could leave the car to be able to walk to where we wanted to go to. Breakfast was excellent with lots if choice & freshly cooked. Staff were very pleasant & helpful, especially Yvonne who made sure that we had everything we needed - nothing was too much trouble. She regaled us with her stories & treated us as good friends, rather than just as customers. Accommodation was spotless and very comfortable, with excellent fans in all rooms to tackle the hot weather.
Disliked: Nothing, everything was good.
