Need/like WIFI? Don't stay here.

Liked: The location is fantastic, particularly if you plan to visit the three big art galleries. There are loads of restaurants nearby, Atocha train station is a 25 minute walk away and it's not far from a bust stop for the airport bus. The rooms were really comfortable and nicely decorated, it was quiet at night and the bed was great. There was also a good choice for breakfast.
Disliked: The wifi does not work on the first floor. The first day it didn't work on any of our devices. They said they'd have someone look at the router the next day and from then on, we got it working (sometimes) on our Android phones but not on a Chromebook or on an iPhone. We complained about it several times and each time they told us that we were the only ones that were having a problem. This felt a bit disingenuous, as it's clear from reading more recent reviews that there IS a problem with the WIFI. It's true the wifi works on the ground floor. However, if you've paid through the nose for a hotel room, you want to be able to use the wifi in the room and not in the lobby. We wanted to watch a film on the laptop and look up restaurants etc, which we couldn't do. If you live in the 1930s and don't need or want wifi, this is a great hotel. We also found the check-in process very complicated. The reception staff and breakfast staff all did their jobs but nobody was especially friendly. I expected a lot more for the price we paid.
