Bransgrove, Essex, visiting Portsmouth Guildhall Mon, 27 April 2015

The hotel in general was nice and friendly, but when going towards the room I noticed how old fashioned and dated everything looked, like it needed updating from the carpet to the walls. In the room it was clean and tidy but everything was a little dated - it was like going back to the 70's. Personally I prefer a nice crisp clean look in the rooms but this definitely wasn't the case. I think this could be a really lovely hotel as the location is perfect but it needs a good refit. Considering what we paid for the room I was expecting more.

Liked: Clean as can be considering how old everything is.
Disliked: Very old fashioned.

Updated Old Time Charm

Liked: The Royal Maritime is the perfect compliment to a visit to Portsmouth Navy Yard. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this hotel. Full English breakfast, large library of naval/military volumes, pool, guest laundry, game room, bar and competent and helpful staff. Our room was upgraded to a nicely furnished, large one, with a comfortable bed and nicely sized bath. The room and hotel are clean, refurbished and yet still manages a charm owing to its one time use primarily by military families. It's a short walk to the Navy Yard, Mary Rose, bus, train and ferry connections. One suggestion: ask for the room upgrade.
Disliked: Nothing

Liked: Noisy. We were in room 208 and there was like an air con unit outside our room which was on constantly. There was tarpaulin over it held down by slabs
