With the Bullring shopping centre and Birmingham Moor Street Station only 1.5 miles away, you’re never far from the city’s liveliest spots.

Why Concert-goers love it

Fans heading to Birmingham’s top venues will appreciate the close proximity to the city centre and quick access to the M6 and NEC. After the show, unwind in soundproofed rooms that keep the party outside where it belongs. The hotel’s flexible location, easy late-night access, and free parking make it a favourite for those rolling in post-gig.

Food and Drink Options

The on-site bar stays open late and offers a cozy vibe with an open fire and mood lighting—perfect for winding down after a show. While there's no restaurant noted, walkable dining options are easily accessible in nearby Birmingham. Breakfast is available to help you recover the morning after.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself doesn’t host live music, the stylish bar with a giant screen is a great place to pre-game or catch up with friends. With Birmingham’s nightlife just a short drive or cab ride away, you’ll find no shortage of nearby bars, clubs, and lounges to keep the night going.

What People Say

Guests love the easy parking, clean and comfortable rooms, and the convenience of being close to the city but not in the middle of the noise. The power showers and comfy beds get regular shoutouts, and many note the great value for money.

Areas for Improvement

The vibe is more functional than fancy—don’t expect boutique styling or luxury extras. Some visitors mention that the decor is a bit dated, and the 10:30 AM check-out might feel early after a late night.

The Bottom Line

If you're after a budget-friendly, quiet, and convenient stay near Birmingham’s live music scene, the Royal George Hotel hits the right note.

Darmalingam, Romford, visiting Utilita Arena Birmingham Sat, 19 March 2022

Enjoyed the stay; night shift staff could be more friendly. Enjoyed the breakfast and the lovely lady called Sela cooked a very nice full English breakfast and her hospitality was excellent!

Liked: Breakfast in the morning; bed and heating was good!
Disliked: TV remote wasn't working.

Value for money

Liked: People friendly and helpful. Would have been nice if given a bit of TLC, however, value for money so you won't get the Ritz for that sort of money.
Disliked: The seal had gone on the window and we were on a main road so very noisy.

Avoid at all costs.

Liked: Nothing
Disliked: One hour before check in I get a short message to say there will be no breakfast. On arrival right away the place is unkept, smells like smoke and unclean. There is bags of dirty laundry left piled up in hallways. In the room there was out of date milk, lose tea bags, hairs on the cup and spoon. Beds were stained, mould in bathroom and at the windows. Bugs in the room. Dust, floors not clean and when saying we were leaving due to the place being unclean there was just an answer of ok. I ended up paying to stay somewhere else and I am still waiting for a Refund as booking.com are looking into the case and the owners haven’t responded to them contacting them. Thankfully managed to book into travel lodge which ended up cheaper and much higher quality.

Vile.

Disliked: Absolutely filthy as soon as you get through the door. The parking - you have to bank your car up a full curb to about six-ish spaces. I could've looked past the bar being grubby but it stank and was dirty from floor to ceiling from the front door all the way up to the room. I stayed in the room all of five minutes to notify booking.com I wouldn't be staying then left. Thick with dust, sticky stained carpets, putrid smells, dirty backed up toilet. Sugar dirt and marks all over the tea and coffee 'facility' which in reality is just some tea bags and stuff thrown on the side. Massive cobwebs and clumps of dust in the bathroom fan, down the radiators. Dirty stained surfaces and chairs in the room, smashed picture with loose glass left hanging above the bed. Marks, holes, dents and dirt on walls and painted surfaces. The whole room stank of cigarettes and the bathroom stank because of the backed up toilet/drain. There was not a single surface or feature in that room that was clean. To top it all off, the windows don't lock - the room window was wide open below waist height with a sheet drop down to the concrete - a bad accident or worse waiting to happen. The deathtrap window is surrounded by badly stained curtains also. Avoid at all costs.

Passable

Liked: Cheap for the area and short notice. Close to where I needed to be. Staff on the bar were nice.
Disliked: Room a little tatty, but seemed clean. Skirting, edges etc. could do with a refurb but perfectly OK. Very much seems to depend on the room - others staying (going to the same conference) said their rooms may have been in a worse state. But there was a VERY unsafe plug / socket for the kettle. The socket it's plugged in to is too low down, the kettle plug flex is restricted by the shelf/table trim so it is only half in the socket. This is EXTREMELY UNSAFE. It would apply to nearly anything plugged in with a flex, not just the kettle. If all rooms have a socket like that they need to be moved/modified or blocked off immediately - basically made safe.** TO BE CLEAR: If anything happens to a customer from that socket or similar sockets this establishment WILL be liable ** It is on them to mitigate that liability, but I'm also writing this as a warning to other customers. Finally, whilst I didn't pay/intend for breakfast there I know others who did pay but were told it wasn't on when they asked for it. That is not good service anywhere - if it's sold / promised it should be provided. But as I say not applicable to me specifically.

Diabolical

Liked: Bed linen clean & mattress comfy
Disliked: Hotel stunk of smoke the landlord even smoked there were signs up saying £100 fine for smoking! All Carpets in hotel disgusting worn out & sticky. Shower cubicle small. When we arrived was told no breakfasts as kitchen closed for refurbishment.
