Darmalingam, Romford, visiting Utilita Arena Birmingham Sat, 19 March 2022

Enjoyed the stay; night shift staff could be more friendly. Enjoyed the breakfast and the lovely lady called Sela cooked a very nice full English breakfast and her hospitality was excellent!

Liked: Breakfast in the morning; bed and heating was good!
Disliked: TV remote wasn't working.

A foul smelling, horrifying nightmare...

Liked: The photographs that advertised the property were great. Shame they were not a real depiction of it.
Disliked: I booked the Royal George as it clearly states Pet Friendly on booking.com and we were driving up with our 3 well behaved whippets for a dog show. I received a message back saying they didn’t take dogs. Confused I called to be told they normally only took dogs during Crufts week but as ours were show dogs they would make an exception. On the day of the booking we drove after work arriving tired at 9pm. We got our keys, took our bags and dogs to the room and unpacked. Within a few minutes there was a knock on the door asking us to leave as the manager stated they didn’t take dogs. We obviously referred to our telephone conversation assuming it was all a misunderstanding but were asked to vacate our room at 9.30pm with nothing else booked. Having only had a glimpse around our room I cannot possibly understand why they wouldn’t allow dogs, they couldn’t possibly have affected their decor. The room was shabby, the bathroom (which was a wet room) was grubby. Outside the bedroom window almost in arms reach was the big screen for the football stadium next door. (So noise from the dogs could not have been a problem)The photos have most definitely been taken with the best lighting money could buy and be grateful you can’t smell a photograph. The sickly smell of stale beer in the bar along with the sticky floor and general cannabis hanging in the air would be enough to put off most people. The only thing missing was the sawdust on the floor. But the attitude of the staff was deplorable. Despite over hearing the barmaid chatting to her manager Anton and pointing out that Booking.com quite clearly does state Pet friendly they decided Kicking two women of a certain age to the kerb at 9.30pm at night in a strange city was perfectly acceptable. Never stay here unless you’re a massive football fan and even then only if desperate.

Great value for the money.

Liked: Great value for money. I didn't expect 4 star accommodation for the price. I couldn't fault it.
Disliked: Friendly staff. Bed was comfy and nice enough walk in shower. Excellent for the price.

Welcoming and friendly hotel

Liked: The Royal George was a lovely hotel! Staff were really friendly and helpful! Room was clean and tidy on arrival. Wasn’t far to the city centre (uber cars were the cheapest taxi to get into the centre)
Disliked: Key cards for the rooms cancelled every day - despite staying for 3 nights. Had to get them reprogrammed each day.
