Not what we expected from...

Liked: Location and a little bit of history
Disliked: Poor decoration needs updating, bed headboard was full of stains, shower was poor and some lights were not working so couldn’t see what you were doing taking a shower, rips in curtain’s, lift wasn’t working, no bar staff to serve drinks so went out to local pubs (the 2 staff members were helpful and did what they could.Had to show the guy on reception how to pour a Guinness!

Fauwlty Towers!

Liked: Breakfast was ok. Hotel rooms were very quiet, rooms are large & comfortable, if a little shabby. Basic infrastructure was good, but needs money spending on it.
Disliked: Shower did not work, extractor fan was faulty, had to ask for the room to be serviced, it was not automatic for more than one night stay, & room was not serviced. Minimal staff. Breakfast was like Fauwlty Towers.

Very disappointed

Liked: We liked the location and the grounds.
Disliked: The whole hotel needed updating, the mattress was badly stained and the breakfast was awful. One waiter in the restaurant, we waited 45 minutes for our breakfast to arrive and it was cold.

Liked: The Staff were all polite and friendly and made us feel welcome.The rooms were a good size and the bed co.fortable.Our cooked breakfast was not as bad as I had feared and the pain au chocolat very nice
Disliked: The hotel itself looked quite imposing but the rooms were very oldfashioned and the furnishings the same.

It's true - you get...

Liked: The cost was lower than many hotels in the area we've used before. Our room was a very good size. The outside of the hotel was surrounded by trees and gardens. Some areas of the hotel were pleasantly decorated.Minimum selection CONTINENTAL breakfast was included. Bedsheets and towels were clean. Reception staff were pleasant when present at the front desk.
Disliked: The whole hotel is very tired looking. Tables in the restaurant badly scratched. Chairs in the room were the same. Decor in the room quite drab for modern taste. Atmosphere is definitely lacking throughout. The continental breakfast was as drab as the decor. Bed uncomfortable. Many double-glazed windows blown and dirty looking. We were told on arrival that breakfast was free, then found that only the small selection served for continental breakfast was free. Cooked breakfast was an extra £5 ( which wasn't too bad a price, but looking at the poor selection for the continental breakfast, we didn't try it)
