Cheap, grotty, and charged for...
Liked: The room was warm and bedding clean.
Disliked: Very dated and threadbare furnishings. Had to pay extra for parking and although I could have booked the room for £7.50 less without breakfast i was still charged the full amount before being told no breakfast was available. Ripped off!

Think of the Shining and...
Liked: Where do I Start? It had a Parking Space... That's about it really. Nothing good at all to say about this former grand hotel. I bet, in its day, it was lovely - Maybe the Prince of Wales even had the pleasure of staying there when he was a boy.... I say that, because the decor reflects a 1890's building that has never been updated since. I'm not talking about our current Prince of Wales - Even Charles would probably prefer a Travelodge to this tatty excuse for a boarding house.
Walking distance to the town centre is literally 5 minutes, which is a good job, because there was no way on this earth, i was going to make a hot drink using the kettle that could only be described as a biological experiment.
The only way to include everything bad about this hotel, is to list it in chronological order.
Initial Feel walking in the door - I can smell something that i dont like, but cannot quite place.
Check in - Simple enough, then they add the Car-parking to the room charge (No, its Not Free !!)
Key Cards are electronic - maybe this isn't too bad after all.. I'm on the First Floor.
Grand Staircase - OH... Thats the smell - Broken Drains.. and its getting stronger as I go upstairs.
Along the bland creaky floorboarded corridors that resemble the Overlook Hotel in the Shining !!
Room 138 - Pictures 1-4 Speak for themselves, Stained wallpaper hangs from the wall, the ceiling has what remains of a substantial water (possibly drainage) leak. Bathroom had a non-functioning 90's spa bath (with yellowed plastic outlets), more webs than Spiderman and an old stained glass window with a clear pane that had been repaired at some point. Nothing could be seen, so i opened the bedroom window to be faced with a brick wall, and the external filled-in arched windows to the ballroom below... The amount of Bird Droppings in this void is probably hazardous to human health.
Disliked: Reception (2nd visit). Its almost as if they were expecting me. No questions were asked about my brief description of the room, and I was swiftly 'upgraded' to the 'Executive Suite', words that flowed from the receptionists mouth with such pride, I actually thought 'This might be OK after all'. I'm now on the 2nd floor, and notice faded wedding reception photos in a display on the way up... i think i'd approach McDonalds for a wedding party before considering this flea-pit. The Executive Suite - I don't consider myself to be highly intelligent, but i'm sure the word 'Executive' doesn't mean Massive, but still just as shabby !! Now, so tired I couldn't be bothered to move to another hotel; I was now in a Front Facing room with a large rotting single-glazed bay window, with a bathroom which also had a clear view of the main street - unfortunately, with no curtains, the main street also had a clear view of my bathroom. Photos 5-8 are of this room, including the structural subsidence crack down the front wall, the lack of bathroom curtains/blinds and the rotten curtains in the bedroom and the bedside drawer that fell off in my hand. Carpets were from the 80's (or earlier), and i'm sure i've left with bites from something. The shower was powerful, but no fun in the dark due to lack of privacy - I had to leave the bedroom door open for a little light. TV worked, and linen was clean, and actually got an OK sleep. Check-out was non existent - no reply from the thump of the broken reception bell, so was unable to get an invoice. I attempted to let myself out of the rotating door, to find that the door beyond was locked, and I was trapped inside.. with thoughts of Hotel California in my head, I completed the 360 degrees of the rotating doors & let myself out of the nearest fire exit. Never to return again.

Needs updating and warmth
Liked: The location was good as well being able to park at the hotel. Shower was good, and was given a free upgrade. Staff were helpful too.
Disliked: Arriving an hour after staying check in time and going to the room to find out it was not ready. Had to leave our things in the room while the room was being cleaned for over an hour. Once getting in the room the bathroom light was broken (hence the upgrade) Things were broken in our upgraded room! The room and hotel was cold. The guests which were there (this is just unfortunate) were noisy and running around late at night and early morning.

Enjoyed the stay
Liked: Moved to a warmer room which was much larger and more comfortable, so very happy
Disliked: Only real issue was the closed bars and restaurants due to Covid. We did have an issue with the heating but that was quickly resolved by the receptionist.

Liked: couldnt fault the place for the price.
Disliked: Charging its own guests to pay to park is cheap and tacky.
