The Spotlight on Pitbauchlie House Hotel

Charming Woodland Retreat Near Edinburgh’s Music Scene

Modern yet full of character, Pitbauchlie House Hotel is nestled in three acres of landscaped gardens and woodland, offering a peaceful base just a mile from Dunfermline and 17 miles from Edinburgh. With individually styled rooms, free Wi-Fi, and a warm Scottish welcome, it’s a refreshing escape that still keeps you connected to the action.

Why Concert-goers love it

This hotel strikes a balance between tranquil setting and easy access to major venues in Edinburgh and Fife. Located just off the M90, it’s a great choice for those driving to shows or hopping on nearby public transport. The free parking is a huge plus, and late-night returns are hassle-free in this safe, quiet area. While it’s not walking distance to city-centre venues, it’s ideal for those who want to avoid the post-concert noise and crowds.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends who want a cozy, affordable base with a bar on-site
- Solo travelers looking for a quiet night’s sleep after that dream gig
- Couples planning a concert date night with a weekend escape
- Fans who’d rather unwind in nature post-show
- Budget-conscious music lovers who don’t mind a short drive from the venue

Food and Drink Options

You won’t go hungry here. The on-site Bar Bistro overlooks the gardens and is popular with guests and locals alike. There’s also a massive beer garden for pre- or post-concert drinks in warmer months, plus a lounge bar serving coffees, cocktails, and gins. While there’s no 24/7 room service, food and drink are available well into the evening, and breakfast is served—perfect for a late start after a big night.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself doesn’t host live music, it’s a short drive or taxi ride to Dunfermline’s lively pubs and music bars. Edinburgh’s world-renowned club and gig scene is also within reach for those looking to make a full night of it. Prefer to stay in? The lounge bar is a great spot to wind down with a local craft gin.

What People Say

Guests love the peaceful surroundings, friendly staff, and comfortable rooms. Many mention the extensive gardens as a bonus for a morning stroll before heading into the city. The on-site dining and relaxed atmosphere are frequently praised, especially by travelers seeking a mix of convenience and calm.

Areas for Improvement

It’s not the most central option if your concert is in downtown Edinburgh—but that’s part of its charm. Some reviewers noted rooms can feel a bit dated, but they’re clean, spacious, and well-maintained. Late night food options are limited, so plan ahead if you’re returning after midnight.

The Bottom Line

A peaceful, affordable stay with easy access to Edinburgh's concert scene—Pitbauchlie House Hotel is a smart pick for music fans who value comfort and quiet after the show.

We had a clean comfortable room with a lovely view of the gardens. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent.

Liked: Excellent staff; clean, comfortable room; very good dinner and breakfast.
Disliked: Room was cold in the afternoon and in the late evening when we returned from a concert as it is on a timer.

Clean, comfortable and good location

Liked: Hotel staff were friendly and helpful with local area knowledge. Restaurant and bar facilities were good with a wide selection of food and drinks for all, the only negative is that they ran out of Steak & Ale pies ;) The rooms were clean, well-equipped and comfortable.
Disliked: Only one bit of feedback, and it's very minor, having a direct line or list of taxi numbers would be useful at the front desk. Although, the reception staff were really helpful in organising a taxi for our group.Point to note: there are no uber drivers in operation in Dunfermline.

Lovely staff, great location and...

Liked: Lovely staff and very helpful. The room had a beautiful view over to the Forth Road Bridges. The room was clean and tidy and the facilities were fine.
Disliked: Like many hotels, 3 of the 4 disabled spaces were filled with cars without blue badges. I wish all hotels would periodically check and get them moved.

A very pleasant stay and...

Liked: Very good breakfast with plenty of choices both continental and cooked. The room was slightly small but did not impact on our stay. Good storage. Lovely bathroom. Being on the east side of the hotel the room was a wee bit dark but this was due to the trees. Had dinner there each night, very tasty and freshly cooked but would have liked it if there were more dishes with potatoes and veg rather than rice or chips. Staff were very pleasant and couldn't have been more helpful. Garden was lovely to sit in and relax.
Disliked: There wasn't anything we didn't like

Lovely Place for a Short...

Liked: The back garden was a lovely place to relax after a busy day in edinburgh
Disliked: The room was not very soundproof - which is expected in an older building. Not much the staff can do about inconsiderate guests returning to their rooms late.

Good location in a peaceful...

Liked: Good location to explore Edinburgh (there is a direct bus every 15 minutes taking you to the city center), but it is better to have a car. Also, Dunfermline is a tourist destination in its own right (abbey and palace).Staff is very responsive, rooms are clean, well maintained and reasonably sized. The surroundings are green, the hotel is in a residential area.

Superb

Liked: Stayed for 2 nights - loved the size of room and the bathroom with bath tub. Bed was comfortable and we had everything we needed. Staff super friendly and very welcoming and helpful with our questions about getting around the area and to Edinburgh. The restaurant and bar was also on site so we didn’t need to go anywhere for dinner or breakfast. Though there are shops within 5 min walk if you wanted to. Thank you was perfect place to stay - highly recommend.
Disliked: Walls a little thin - but that is expected in most places and wasn’t an issue for us.
