Comfortable friendly place to stay.

Liked: Friendly helpful staff, clean large room, clean bathroom. Just a pleasant place to stay and I’m sure a great place to have a wedding, which seemed its main business. Breakfast was also excellent.
Disliked: Nothing

Very Disappointing

Liked: The building and grounds are really nice. The room was very spacious facing onto the rear gardens.
Disliked: The drinks were expensive, but I suppose that is to be expected somewhere like that. Guinness was by the can, which is fine, and I'm maybe being petty here but my husband had to pour his own which I wouldn't expect somewhere like that especially with a 10% discretionary charge on everything. The evening meal was very average, and for us the atmosphere in the dining room was lacking.Breakfast - a choice of continental or full English, I was hoping for a little more choice. My fried egg was not quite cooked but I scraped the 'jelly' off the top and was just warm enough to eat. My husbands egg was inedible, very jellifield so sent it back. The plate came back with the same food and same egg which had been taken off the plate and refried!! By this time the egg was now hard and the rest of the food was cold. Consequently he couldn't face the breakfast. They did offer to do a fresh breakfast but by that time I had finished mine and he had been put off any more.On checking out I mentioned the breakfast but the receptionist, although apologising, seemed very disinterested. We asked for a refund of the breakfast which receptionist had no intention of doing by which time 2 other members of staff came out the front and hung around the computer listening which made us feel very uncomfortable. If I was being aggressive I could have understood it, but I wasn't. I had to ask them to take the 10% charge off the bill, she couldn't even offer that without me asking. Unfortunately this was a very disappointing stay and I would definitely not recommend.

Very good

Liked: The location is ideal for Manchester airport. Very quiet.Good helpful staff.Excellent breakfastLarge roomComfortable bed and pillowsA beautiful old stately building
Disliked: No aircon - I think this is a must now in hotels because of climate change. The bedroom furniture was shabby but not chic. We have stayed in hotels with traditoonal styling and what looks like 17th century furniture but it's actually new ( you can tell by the hinges!), but it looks the part and much better than old brown furniture that nobody wants.

A bit disappointing

Liked: Good, convenient location
Disliked: Too much gravel made it difficult to access the ramp in wheelchair, a young man staying at the hotel helped but without that it would have been impossible to get inside. Room allocated was up a floor which was difficult for a wheelchair to turn in that lift as it was very small and exit door was not same as entry door. To get to room was up another ramp which was impossible to navigate had to request to change to ground floor room, which was done. Bar service is very limited, having to wait extended periods until someone arrives to serve you.
