Close to the M11 and...
Liked: The house and grounds were exceptional and relaxing. The staff were pleasant and attentive ( - at breakfast probably more than I am used to but done very politely and enthusiastically).
Disliked: I had a slight altercation with the shower curtain rail which had simply been balanced on top of the tiles and was not secured in place.

Extraordinary stay in a historic...
Liked: Breakfast was very delicious in an extraordinary dining hall with view in a landscape formed by Capability Brown. The accomodation itself is a Hall with an exceptional garden.

The gardens are stunning
Liked: The setting of Madingley Hall is stunning. Weather permiting there are plenty areas to sit outside and enjoy the gardens and areas to walk. As stated in the information this is a university residence not a hotel and that did set my expectations reallistically. The rooms are basic but everything you need for a reasonable stay. The cafe/bar is an excellent asset with comfortable seating. It provides a small menu for hot food as well as fridge with sandwiches and salads. The breakfast is plentiful in refrectory setting. Staff at reception and cafe/bar very welcoming.
Disliked: The decor does need refreshing and some aspects of room and ensuite in need of attention and would benefit from additional cleaning e.g mould in bathroom. stains on soft furnishings. Shower over bath low pressured. Staff in refrectory were a bit sullen
