Lovely old hotel, felt tired...
Liked: We’ve stayed before, twice but not in the room we had. There was parking on site. Communal areas very spacious and clean. Both front door and room was key pad entry which meant no keys to worry about. Lovely bed which was very high and quest should be aware as short and old people would find hard to get in and especially out of. Breakfast dining room in the adjacent sister hotel was very clean and spacious. The hotel is very quiet both internally and externally and a short walk from coast. Bus routes very close by.Breakfast was ok. Pastries were good, coffee was good. Elements of food were good. Cleanliness was very good.
Disliked: There were issues and as I say we had stayed before and come back.We had a luxury suite on suite room at the top (no7, Alexander) to access from first floor our door was only 45 cm approx wide and immediately you go up many narrow stairs 9both width and Height ) not good for large or people who have even minor mobility issues. But we stepped well as so comfortable.Window stays had no pin to hold them open. The shutters(instead of curtains) had either missing or very loose knobs.Carpet had many marks/stains.The Bath (in room) shower controls were so stiff I had to force it round with two hands and also had very low pressure making a shower almost impossible and hair wash for long hair a very long and uncomfortable task. (reported).Toilet and sink room had a very low angled ceiling (we are short people) and we banged our heads several times.Furniture had a stressed old look but was not clean.Wardrobe was lacking in hangers, even one broken in the bottom.Wi-Fi was quite low in our room.Breakfast was ok. White sliced bread for toast was poor, as soon as you spread butter on went story and flat.Scrambled egg portion was just about one egg, we have never had such a small amount in any hotel. When you consider you can have a full English and then you get a smidgen amount of egg if you have scrambled egg it was shameful. Would have liked a knife laid with the side plate for buttering and applying jam to toast.

Fabulous!
Liked: I stayed here about 18years ago and loved it then. Although it is managed by the hotel next door now - the Derby, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel and our room were immaculately clean and the staff when we went into the Derby for a drink and then breakfast were very polite and friendly. Very impressive decor too.
Disliked: I can’t think of anything that I didn’t like
