Very good

Liked: The room was clean, comfy and well equiped. The breakfast was delicious and due to the covid restrictions we received an extra little take away bag of food. The location was perfect for exploring, walking and running.

Rude staff and bad service

Disliked: When we were walking in a hall to our room, there were two unleashed dogs that almost bit me and my partner. Staff was very rude and prices were unreasonably inflated.

Disappointing

Liked: Location perfect
Disliked: Noise from room above, you could hear every footstep. Room had a bad damp, musty smell as soon as we opened the door

Castleton

Liked: Location is ideal.Shower was not ideal, lack of hot water, no consistent temperature
Disliked: Difficult parking. The place was a bit rundown. No cooked breakfast we thought that was due to COVID 19,but they were advertising for a breakfast chef!Other local hotels were doing cooked breakfasts and cheaper in price.

Absolutely perfect for a cosy...

Liked: The location is undoubtedly the best in Castleton! The pub/ restaurant was incredible, the balance of rustic and modern was executed perfectly. We had a walk around a few other pubs but none matched the warm, welcoming atmosphere of 4 open log fires, a well stocked bar and superb staff. From the minute we arrived we were so welcomed, every member of staff we met was friendly, polite and well informed. The food was exceptional, true compliments to the chef. We ate lunch and dinner at the castle and we were not disappointed either time. It's also worth me mentioning that The landlord explained how he had only taken the castle on a couple of weeks ago and was looking at sorting some of the issues out during the national lock down.
Disliked: Our room was very spacious but also very minimalistic and in need of a slight update. (stain and hole in the bedding, wonky bedside lamps with cold white lighting bulbs in them, TV could have done with a clean as there were finger marks all over it) There were original wall and roof high beams we should have been able to marvel at, however we were a little unhappy about the sheer amount of dust and cobwebs that coated the beams. I'm hoping this is one of the issues the new landlord could sort with a ladder and a cloth :-) The castle is a 400 year old building and some parts of it are grade 1 listed, this may be the reason for the single glazed windows which can't be helped, so we were thankful for the extra electric heater in room as it was chilly at night! A little more attention to detail in the rooms would go a really long way :-)

Superb

Liked: Great location. A lovely hotel with very friendly staff. The food was lovely and everything was very covid safe. I loved the open fires & log burners in each room of the bar/restaurant area.
Disliked: I'm very tall so I struggled with the shower. I just fit in!
