Nightlife Options

Brian D, Queens New York

I am very upset - I came to Newark to See Iron Maiden at the Prudential Center whom played there Monday July 2nd. I only wanted to stay at the Howard Johnson Hotel on Monday night - when I arrived at the hotel on Monday at approximately 4PM, and they informed me that my reservation was for Sunday night and they held my room. So basically I had to pay for Sunday night when I had no intention of ever being in Newark on Sunday - I was seeing Maiden on Monday and just wanted to stay Monday night. So since I needed a hotel I had to pay for two nights even though I only stayed Monday night. That is completely unfair - they could have called me on Sunday when I did not arrive as I left my cell number with the reservation. In addition they charged me 20 dollars to park my car in the parking lot - I have never seen any hotel charge for parking ever. I picked the Howard Johnson hotel as I just wanted a low price place to stay for one night. I wound up having to pay for two nights at a hotel, parking in the hotel and then the cabs charged me 25 dollars each way to go less than 4 miles to the Prudential Center. I could have stayed in an amazing hotel right at the Prudential Center and I would have saved a lot of money.

Disliked: Hotel charged extra for parking.

The staff were very friendly and we did not have any problem checking in early. The food was good. We went into NYC and also went to the Prudential center to see the NJ Nets. Transportation was easy. We would stay there again.

Liked: Clean and inexpensive
Disliked: No bar and had to pay for parking.

abysmal service

Liked: it was close to NYC
Disliked: I will write here the complaint to booking.com via email. I still have not heard back.During our first night, at between 4am and 5am we heard people trying to get into our room. Thereafter, someone actually opened up the door. What prevented entry was the 'chain' on the door. The next morning we reported this to the clerk at the registration who promised to get back to us as soon as the cameras were reviewed. Not only did the clerk not get back to us, they did not inform the manager nor colleagues. So after our second night, we went to check out to find out the status. At that time none of the 3 clerks/people at registration were aware of what happened. They then checked the cameras to find out that the agent/clerk on the first night, had not blocked our room and had subsequently tried to open the door. Apparently, they did not check their booking software first but instead attempted to enter the room. This caused my and my guest severe anxiety and the failure of the facility to address this swiftly is unconscionable!!!They do not deserve our business and it seems are so poorly run that this kind of behavior results. As in the 'Topic' above, i am requesting full refund at minimum for the distress that this event caused.I spoke to Mr David Roberts, who said he could not contact the manager Mr Neal Gandhi.Mr Roberts admitted this was their fault as their procedures were not followed.

Use only as a last...

Liked: At least they had a room.
Disliked: This place was a dump. I stayed here because they were the only hotel that I could find that still had a room on a night when most flights out of Newark were cancelled. They weren't running their shuttle bus so I had to pay for an Uber to and from the hotel. Ended up needing a hotel the next night as well, and switched to the airport Marriott for only about $20 more.
