Howard Johnson Hotel by Wyndham Newark Airport

I am very upset - I came to Newark to See Iron Maiden at the Prudential Center whom played there Monday July 2nd. I only wanted to stay at the Howard Johnson Hotel on Monday night - when I arrived at the hotel on Monday at approximately 4PM, and they informed me that my reservation was for Sunday night and they held my room. So basically I had to pay for Sunday night when I had no intention of ever being in Newark on Sunday - I was seeing Maiden on Monday and just wanted to stay Monday night. So since I needed a hotel I had to pay for two nights even though I only stayed Monday night. That is completely unfair - they could have called me on Sunday when I did not arrive as I left my cell number with the reservation. In addition they charged me 20 dollars to park my car in the parking lot - I have never seen any hotel charge for parking ever. I picked the Howard Johnson hotel as I just wanted a low price place to stay for one night. I wound up having to pay for two nights at a hotel, parking in the hotel and then the cabs charged me 25 dollars each way to go less than 4 miles to the Prudential Center. I could have stayed in an amazing hotel right at the Prudential Center and I would have saved a lot of money.

Disliked: Hotel charged extra for parking.

The staff were very friendly and we did not have any problem checking in early. The food was good. We went into NYC and also went to the Prudential center to see the NJ Nets. Transportation was easy. We would stay there again.

Liked: Clean and inexpensive
Disliked: No bar and had to pay for parking.

Thankful for a clean room...

Liked: The staff was helpful, as we had to book late (after 11 pm) because of a missed flight, and then we had to add another night because our replacement flight could not be made until two days later.
Disliked: The location was convenient (near the airport), but wasn't too appealing from the outside.

Good

Liked: The receptionist Raj was wonderful-super friendly and helpful. The hotel is very close to Newark airport, which is convenient (however, there's no shuttle service, so you need to get an Uber or taxi).
Disliked: The place felt a little ghetto-most guests were black, and there was a lingering smell of marijuana in the hallway. Sadly, the stereotypes didn’t feel far off... It wasn’t terribly loud, though-I expected it to be much worse after my first impression.

Liked: Great staff

It was a very relaxing...

Liked: Room was clean spacious and had all of the amenities needed.
Disliked: Could do with better public transportation although this isn't something that the hotel can directly influence.
