Hotel Villa Malaspina

Very good

Liked: The hotel situated in a quite area like a village. The swimming pool is very warm, clean, good place for children. The staff and cleaning ladies are very friendly and nice. We enjoyed our time there.
Disliked: The breakfast is the same every day. I’m totally fed up with omelette but there was no choice (I mean salty dishes). Was a bit difficult to feed my daughter. Also in the evening it is difficult to find some place to eat in the neighborhood. The restaurant in the hotel offers not many dishes.

Hotel with a past -...

Liked: The hotel room was spacious and the reception was quick and efficient. The room we were in was indeed furnished with quaint old wooden cupboards, bedside drawers, etc. The view from the rooftop terrace is very nice. Alas it seems the hotel is in a derelict part of town (we were told the only restaurants to be found are in neighboring towns). The hotel building itself appears past its glory days seeming a bit to eerily quiet - with what felt like a skeleton staff propping it up for the few guests still arriving.
Disliked: We looked forward to rooms that appear picturesque in booking's photos - high ceilings, a large bed, old wooden furnishings. In person the atmosphere was a bit cold and creepy. Offered a room with a terrace - it turns out the room and the terrace are on separate floors separated by a spiraling staircase. the room itself lacked natural light - since the windows such as they are - are small openings near the ceiling. In fact one discovers - upon opening the room-door - that to reach your room you need to ascent another flight of stairs. (separate from the spiral set of stairs to reach "the terrace"). Other annoyances: The promised wifi in the room (but not in the lobby) never actually materialized. The power-outlets were few and in use - so - to charge smartphones we had to scour behind cupboards and under table-lamps.

Liked: Breakfast buffet was very good. The location of the hotel is great, in a tranquil neighbourhood. The food in the hotel restaurant is excellent and there is a great pastry shop just next to the hotel.

Disliked: In the minibar there was only a small can.of water and no tag that had to be paid so being two people and having just one bottle we thought was complimentary. At the check out we had to pay it
