We had a fantastic stay...

Liked: Great location

Very good

Liked: Really quirky and unusual hotel in a great location. The lady on the front desk was great and there's free Sherry in the afternoons.
Disliked: Our room didn't look out on to anything really, just kind of a gap between buildings.

Nice and different

Liked: Good location, friendly staff, good mattress. Good water pressure and warm water. Spacious room.
Disliked: Carpets always feel dirty and smelly. When I first stepped in to the hotel, it smelled like cow poo. Room was very dark (not enough lighting). Very steep steps directly from the outside door. The room was very cold in the evening, but heater heated very well. Blankets were very worn, hopefully from plenty of washing.

Liked: Thank you , Nick, for the hospitality and extra thanks for the 4 pm sherry! We love the history and feel of the building and room. It truly embraces the spirit of San Francisco. Great restaurants (breakfast at Mama's, dinner at Mona Lisa #3, the Stinking Rose, and Piccolo Forno) , cafes and bars ( we love Johnny at Comstock) and the Washington Square Park are convenient delights. You can get your dog fix at Washington Square, too! Great walking neighborhood and if you're feeling energetic, walk up to and around Coit Tower and take in those terrific views! And a visit to the iconic City Lights Bookstore is a treat.
Disliked: We were on the second floor. A recirculating pump for hot water and volume control on the shower will cut down on water wasted waiting for hot water.👍

I will use every time...

Liked: I would recommend this hotel again and again! We walked from this hotel to Chinatown, North Beach, Club Fugazi, all the shops and eateries.

Pleasant

Liked: Great location in North Beach
Disliked: Very dark rooms and hallways. Many steep stairs, to just the 1st floor, no elevator. Overpriced.
