Great bargain in Portsmouth -...
Liked: Staff were great, wicked friendly, and always ready to help. Poor breakfast crew was run off their feet by the demands on the buffet, but they really tried to keep up. The aircon was powerful, effective, and a welcome amenity over a very hot weekend. The outside patio area in the centre of the Pentagon is comfortable and pleasing to spend time in. Nice selection of pints at the bar and reasonably priced for the area. We had breakfast, though it was often a bit of a fight to get access and not everything was available at the same time, though -again- this is not staff's fault. As for the area, we went specifically to tour the Royal Navy Historic Dockyard, see the Mary Rose and so on. The Park and Ride is less than a 5 minute drive from the hotel: for £4, we got parking for the day and the bus ride to the Dockyard. Absolutely cracking value on top of the wicked deal we got on our hotel booking.
Disliked: The hotel is laid out like the Pentagon: one external corridor tracing the entire perimeter of the building, no way to shortcut to our room. After a 7 hour drive in 35' weather, it felt like a forced march to our room. We met up with some other guests saying the same, broke into an impromptu chorus of 'Tipperary' - it was like that. It took us 2 days to figure out we could cut across the courtyard, but that is only because all the fire doors were propped open. We asked whether we should use those, being open and all, and the front desk staff said, 'erm, no, they really should not be open at all', even though they were and no one closed them. Breakfast was a circus of insanity, with unhinged children amped on 5 different modes of sugar letting run rampant throughout the dining area. This is not staff's fault, really, though there could be better messaging about not taking more than you can eat at one time off the buffet.

Will definitely use again when...
Liked: Location very convenient.Very clean and comfortable beds.Staff very happy and helpful.Good breakfast for the price.
Disliked: Breakfast time was a bit manic, a lot of people queuing especially for toast. Really need to invest in more effective/faster toasters.

Not worth £140 that was...
Liked: The bed was comfortable, room was tidy.
Disliked: Everything else was a pain, breakfast was chaotic, there were cutlery left outside our room (since we checked in and until we left). The location isn’t ideal in terms of being able to venture out.

Excellent value for money and...
Liked: Terrific value for money. Good breakfast with lots of choice included in the reasonable price. The staff were helpful, friendly and professional. The room was spotless and had air con with Dove toiletries in the bathroom. Handy parking (£5 per night). Couldn't fault it for the price.
Disliked: Nothing. It was all good.
