ok - but very pricy....
Liked: Great location close to Penn Station and two subway lines. Also has some good restaurants for breakfast/dinner close by. The room we had was quiet (not facing the street). Room was also well cleaned. Breakfast was included and ok for an american breakfast. Liked that the egg dish changed every day. It's also great that the hotel offers free refreshment drinks during the day which can be enjoyed on the hotels own patio (streetlevel) with nice couches. In case needed the hotel also sells a few things at reception such as softdrinks, icecream and other useful items. Very nice. Reception staff was generally helpful. Area of the hotel felt safe.
Disliked: We booked a double bed room for two people and paid a premium of 300USD per night. (booked 3 weeks ahead). That's the price of a premium Hotel. Value delivered of the room, including "NYC surcharge", was more around 150-200USD. Room: - Room very small for two people already. Hardly any space for normal luggage. I don't know how this could ever fit 4 people which it is what it is being sold for. Definitely not recommended for more than 2 people. - No fridge or microwave - Aircon had a bit of a mouldy smell. Cannot be adjusted to a specific temperature, only to "high/low" - Everything felt a bit old. (except for TV which was good) General observations: - We observed one member of housekeeping staff knocking on guests doors at 09:30am to see if they were still there. As it turned out they were so staff asked when they would be checking out so they could clean the room. This is one of the most unprofessional behaviours I have ever seen in a hotel. I expect housekeeping and reception to talk to each other so housekeeping does not have to ask guests at their door and disturb them in their morning routine. - One elevator did not work which led to very long waiting times. This was already being noted by guests at the time I booked three weeks before my stay. I don't understand how this had not been taken care of during that time and it turned out to be a major nuisance. The matter was also aggravated by the fact that this single elevator also had to be used by housekeeping. - Emergency stairs on the 2nd floor where obstructed by a garbage bin. - The "business center" downstairs has 2 or three not well maintained computers. Some things are broken in the keyboard, print outs where slightly blurred and the computer threw you back to login every couple of minutes. - Staff at check out neither offered a receipt nor did they ask how our stay was. => Hence I'm writing full details here to the public.
