The Spotlight on Holiday Inn Express New York City Chelsea By IHG

Steps from the Stage: Your Midtown NYC Base

Modern and convenient, the Holiday Inn Express New York City Chelsea places you right in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. This 3-star hotel offers a clean, comfortable stay just a few minutes’ walk from iconic venues like Madison Square Garden and The High Line. With a relaxed atmosphere and friendly multilingual staff, it’s an easy choice for music fans looking to stay close to the action without the chaos.

Why Concert-goers love it

One word: location. Being just a 4-minute walk from Penn Station, this hotel is a dream for anyone catching a show at MSG or nearby venues. You can stroll to the venue, skip the cabs, and be back in your room before the encore fades. Despite the central location, guests report surprisingly quiet rooms—ideal for winding down after a high-energy night. With express check-in and check-out, you can keep your plans flexible, and the 24-hour front desk means someone’s always there, no matter how late your night runs.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends wanting a central, walkable stay
  • Solo travelers catching a bucket-list show
  • Couples planning a city concert weekend
  • Fans who value a quieter space post-show
  • Budget-conscious music lovers looking for value in Midtown

Food and Drink Options

While there’s no on-site restaurant, you'll find plenty of late-night bites just steps away in Chelsea and Koreatown. The hotel provides a daily buffet or continental breakfast—perfect if you’re recovering from a late night. There’s also a shared lounge and terrace where you can relax with snacks or drinks you bring back. Though there’s no room service, the front desk staff is happy to recommend nearby 24/7 spots.

Nightlife Options

You're in the heart of it all. From low-key wine bars in Chelsea to bustling clubs in the Flatiron District, there’s something for every post-show vibe. While the hotel itself doesn’t offer live music or a bar, its proximity to countless nightlife spots makes it a great home base after the concert.

What People Say

Guests love the prime location near MSG and Penn Station, the helpful multilingual staff, and the free breakfast. Reviewers frequently mention that the rooms are clean and comfortable, with just enough space and quiet to feel like a retreat after a night out.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests note that the rooms are a bit on the smaller side—typical for NYC. The elevators can be a little slow during peak times, especially after events. But for most, these are minor trade-offs for the unbeatable location.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers wanting a no-fuss, centrally located hotel with great access to venues and public transport, Holiday Inn Express New York City Chelsea hits the right note.

Great location, average everything else

Liked: The location was great and it was easy to catch the subway to all attractions. Felt safe and secure.Breakfast was reasonable with a good choice of bagels and yogurts.
Disliked: Rooms were tiny with no space to even put one suitcase comfortably (2 x double bed room). You could also hear and feel the doors from other apartments slamming shut. The lift was broken for the duration of our stay, making coming and going time consuming, especially at peak times like breakfast. The air conditioning was irregular and the shower water pressure seemed to be set to "dribble".

Disappointed.

Liked: Breakfast was simple but very good. The daytime staff were courteous and helpful, which I appreciated.
Disliked: When I returned to my hotel room one evening, I found long black hairs in the bathroom and on the bedside table, most likely left behind by housekeeping. The bed sheets also had a black stain, possibly from a liquid or even a burn mark, which was unpleasant. One of the elevators was out of service. I was told it would be fixed within a day or a day and a half, but it remained out of order throughout my five-day stay. As a result, there were frequent delays waiting for the elevator, both going up and down. The most disappointing aspect though was the evening staff. They seemed extremely uninterested and unprofessional. When I asked a question, it felt like I was interrupting them when they were watching a video on their phone. One of the guys didn't even bother to look up when we were talking. This used to be a hotel I liked, but not anymore.

Pleasant

Liked: It is very well located, right in the centre.Rooms are very small.
Disliked: Rooms are very small for 4 people. One of two lifts was not working for 4 days and we had to wait for extremely long time to get to 15th floor.Even if we were 4 people registered, we always got only 3 towels.Breakfast is always the same, not much choise.

Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Don’t do it.

Liked: The location is fine. Bed was comfortable. Has a small closet and two drawers, which is more than the last NYC hotel I stayed in.
Disliked: My room was in a basement next to laundry, housekeeping, etc. The door slamming started before 7:00 a.m. no way to sleep past that first slam as it was constant. The basement was cool but humid and the hallway and stairwell stunk. Only one working elevator. Floors were dirty and towels were stained. I ended up checking out a day early and eating the cost of the last night. Not even close to being worth the cost, even by NYC standards.
